This month it will be where ever YOU live so YOU can enjoy it in your own backyard!

I was wondering why it was in my back yard!

*

Went to the loan place I do business with and refinanced my loan for a lower monthly payment. Got it lowered a bit and I'm happy with it. Don't owe a payment until next month and didn't need to pay anything this month so I put the money to some use.  I don't get this chance often. Got some stuff from Wal-Mart that I've been needing. Also did some digging around on the net and found two new Bachmann locos, a GP40 and a GP38-2, both PC and DCC. Picked them up at a good price. Also have two DZ125 decoders on the way. There's three packs of Athearn geep diesel horns coming and some specially selected diesel rebuild parts. In two or three weeks I should be able to get started on rebuilding the Bachmann Spectrum/Plus GP40 I have. Also got first half of the grocery shopping done. Second half happens on the third.

So if the dinner is nowhere, yet everywhereat once; does that mean we have a warp-drive

I'm trying the trick Jeff mentioned. Seems to work quite well.

cudaken

Shakey The PK 2000 GP 20  Is back to it old tricks? Whistling  After I shut down the layout, to get Shakey started again, I have to tip the engine to on side, then it runs fine. Just real odd.

Vince's speaking of Shakey, I still have the detail parts for my old and now yours SD 40-2. You still need them? Whistling (pretty sure you doLaugh) I could all so uses the fuel tanks for the F 3's. Neither engine had them. While we are at it, what would you charge me to get another Kato motor, cut it down to fit the PK 1000 F 3? All so how you installed the Kato motor in the F3?

 See you all later, Ken

Ken, yeah I could really use them. What's funny is those kits actually can do several locos. I could also use it for my BN SD40-2.

The fuel tanks are in front of me. I realized they were the P1K ones just before I started to cut them  for modified F-unit skirts. (see the old pic of the stewart F-unit fuel tanks I made) The kato motors are 17-18 bucks a piece. I actually forgot how I did it, but I think I just used carpet tape (the foam double-sided stuff) to mount the motor to the chassis.

Jeff, Say that yellow caboose looks like the old athearn santa-fe one. BN actually wound up with a few of those (I have one in GN paint that will probably stay in GN since it's close to a GN class) from the C&S and Frisco. If I had it all I'd have to do is paint the sides green, roof silver, and add glazing and decals. lol

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evening All,

Was able to get a first coat of paint on the engine house, and roof. Will do second coats on Saturday as well as the windows and doors, then the small detail parts. Hopefully I will be able to install it on the layout Sunday.

There was an unauthorized transaction on my debit card, so called the bank, and the card is now cancelled. Went into the bank to get a temporary one, and while there figured it was time to have my late wife taken off the accounts. It has been 5 months since she passed away, and I thought it would be easy for me to do. Well it was not. Looking at the death certificate was a bit dificult for me. But I did get it done and I do not have to think about that anymore.

   Prayers to all in need.

Pant, pant - wheez!

Went to the April location, only to find out that the diner had been moved to its May location. Must have missed a day.

Flo, lots of coffee and a breakfast bagel, please!

Well,m yesterday was the big day! And a long one, too! I left home at 6.30 am and was back at 11 pm, only to drop dead and flat into my bed.

Everything went quite well at the State Party convention. We had over 300 members there, plus about 50 press folks. Did not see Chris there, maybe THAT editor would not sign off the airline ticket!

My opening speech was very well received and provided for the right atmosphere. After I finished, there  was about 10 minutes of applause and stomping of feet! Feels good to get some recognition! All the elections did not result in big surprises - I was elected State Party Chairman with an overwhelming majority  of all votes. Got a comfortable place on the list of candidates for the Bundestag as well. If my party tops 5 % of all votes in our General Election is September, I will be an MP!

Here is a press picture taken right afte I was elected:

I am the big fella on the right (actually, I hate that picture!).

The nice guy on the left is Prof. Dr. Lucke, an economist, teaching at the University of Hamburg, founder and anchorman of the party.

The coming months will be filled with a lot of work. I am responsible for the campaign in our state, which means lots of traveling, hundreds of speeches and no time for MRRing - sigh!

Janie, dear, another cup of coffee, please!

Have a good one!

Good morning to everyone!  The weather is beautiful here in New England, which, of course, means that it will change and we may have wet stuff falling from the sky by evening.

Ulrich, congratulations!  Das ist ja ausgezeichnet!

Jeffrey, I too think you've got an Athearn.  I've got a pair of those.  The AHM one looks similar, but to me it's a bit shorter overall, and it's got thick plastic ladders, while the Athearn model has thinner metal ladders.

Hopefully, today will be my trip up north a ways to Northeast Scale Lumber.  It's actually quite close, but I'll have to watch the traffic reports because I-93 north can be quite the parking lot some days.  I stopped at the ATM this morning for some cash.  Shop owners like cash.  I want to get a sheet of what they call siding, because it makes a nice wood deck material for flatcars.  I've got three Tichy cars I'm using for "idler flats" at the carfloat terminal.  The prototype doesn't run the engine even on to the apron, let alone the float itself, so the flats provide a "handle."  It also means that I don't have to provide power to the tracks on the carfloat.  Yes

Well, g'day to all.  I'm getting a message that my computer (work) must be rebooted to correct some security flaw.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good morning. It's 63° with 100% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a fair chance of rain. The high will be 75°.

I have no particular plans for today though the work area on the layout needs some tidying up. I haven't yet sorted out all the stuff that I received yesterday. One of the boxes I looked in contains a rotary snow plow kit. Looking at it I wondered if maniacal laughter was echoing off the walls as it was added to the box. I'm in west Louisiana and the scenery on my layout is set in the same type area. What am I going to do with a snow plow? Could be some oddity for the local redneck brain trust to look at and ask 'What the heck is that thar thing?'. Maybe it could be labelled as a giant mobile steam powered snow cone maker. Though I'd hate to see the block of ice you'd need for that baby! And not to mention the catch cup! Step right up folks! One good spin of the blades with a suitable block of ice serves 2,500! I wonder how many I caught sipping their coffee right at that moment.

Time to get on with my day.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the fruit plate please, thanks.

Whew! Place was busy yesterday. Hope there’s some food left ya chowhounds.

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71.  Chance of precipitation is 60%. Looks like rain thru Tuesday next week. Gonna make for a cruddy all town garage sale weekend. Won’t bother me none cause all I’ll be doing is hauling junk to the all town cleanup site.

Well well, LAWNMOWERS ALL AROUND!! Ken gets his repaired to almost new, G gets a new one and so did I.

Jeffrey- I should have said. I have never seen you not respond to an inquiry if you see it.

Ok  Alexander. It sounded like it might be later in the month. Birthday that is.

Vincent- Looks like a rat snake to me. Like Jeff said, the Shovelnose, or Hognose, is a mimic snake and as harmless as most, but creates quite the stir if not paying  lot of attention. If cornered they will play dead.

I find all snakes to be potentially deadly because if I’m not careful, I can crack my head on something trying to get away as fast as I can. Me and snakes only get along at great distances.

Mike- I had Norton many years ago. I did not like it as it pretty much took over my computer and I was too stupid to be able to get it to let things through. Mainly pictures or attachments on e-mail drove me nuts. (used it more then.) I don’t do much on a computer so my issues are very small, but I can only think if I ran into “you can’t do this” issues with Norton, others that use it more, would run into more. Just my opinion. Oh and by the way, as we all found out, there is a learning curve on this site. It’ll take you a bit to figure the thing out. In the meantime, we just sit back and chuckle at the whoopsies from the newer guysLaugh….(ahem)and a few of us older timers as wellWhistling. We've all been there.

Ulrich- Congratulations! And…. I like your shirtWink.

GrumpyOk, I’ve been opening and closing this door for like five minutes and have yet to get to my hou….Ken, you need to mow your yard…., house. How do you….Oh Ray, you should make some power today…..get to where you’re……Hm…not as hot downunder as I thought it’d be….going?!   Oh there we are. Crud, still lot’s of yardw*rk to do.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

You are very welcome. Just turn all the burners off plus the tank valve. Now just slowly turn the tank valve back on.

Mornin' everybody, wherever you are....???

Zoe, I'll have a Butter Rum Muffin with real butter and lots of dark roast coffee in an R&GV RR mug please.

Todd, yep, today looks to be a record breaker for the system.  So far nice and bright outside, and the weather (or not) people say the whole day should be exactly the same!  Gotta go down stairs top the basement and watch that little wheel spin around and around for a while.

Actually I have a long list of items that have to be done today so time will be short.  The hotel I stayed at for the convention last weekend has put 3 different charges on the CC list, sent me a completely different final bill (email) and today the first charge was paid and that was completely different from any of them....  I figure the difference between the charge and the bill they sent me was due to the exchange rate (slightly less as it should be).  I'll wait a day or so and make sure it is the only transaction that goes through.

Best get moving and open up a few windows here.  Getting warm in the house!

Another bright sunny spring day and currently 68 degress in the Old Dominion State.  (question asked... now answered)  Many U.S. States have nick names.  Virginia is the "Old Dominion State" as it was the first English Dominion established in the new world. (1608)  It included parts of what would become 4 other states later on. In the old southern civil war song, "the Bonnie Blue Flag" Virginia is referred to as the Old Dominion state as she joined the Confederacy.

Canada was another British Dominion established later. Ya' had ta' be big to be declared a Dominion.

Gettin' on towards lunch time here.  Think I'll check out for chow....Missed breakfast.

I take it you saw the part about maniacal laughter. Now I have some of my own! I now have a use for this thing. Quite whimsical but the Sundown town hall has needed a heavy-duty paper shredder for some time. Now they have one that can take a dump truck load at a time and create instant parade confetti. It can be great for getting rid of old ballots too. Loose chad? What loose chad?

Afternoon guys

Got that cursed ATSF SD40-2 figured out. I check voltage and it chacked out at 1.5V for the function. But then it burnt out another bulb. Re-checked, 1.5V. I turned the function on and off repeatedly. still 1.5V. I tipped the loco to see if there was something with it if it lost power. BINGO, when it regains power, the voltage jumps to 2.4V. So I just stuck some burned out bulbs in the rear and used the rear light to control the beacon. I rarely have locos that have working rear lights, because I can use it for a beacon or a something and usually group them into bunches. Also saves money since I don't have to buy a multi-function decoder and canj ust use the DH123 which I found that still works fine. I still need bulbs to finish my BN SD40-2.

I also started working on a scrach-built wooden trestle. I used some 1/4" x1/4" square dowel for the stringers and the caps. But of course I started BEFORE I looked at a pic. Turns out I made the caps too narrow. Real ones seem to go out further than the stingers, not flush with the sides of them. I was about to get some 1/4 round dowel for piers, but it looks like I could go either round or square. That should save me a little bit of money since I have a bunch of 1/4" square. I need to get some stuff for cross bracing, and probably a couple of longer pieces of 1/4" square to redo the stringers as I nailed to the risers with track nails.

Jeff, Rotary plow huh? What would it....*smacks self* Oh, yeah. I have one. I'm waiting for athearn to re-do the BN ones in brown with the F-B unit as the power unit. I'm still trying to sell mine (with working blades and DCC). Figure it'd cost me less (with time, paint, and decals) to just sell mine and buy the new one.

Vincent

Distracted driving (talking on a handheld phone) caused 3,331 deaths nationwide in 2011. In California 57,000 tickets for distracted driving during April 2012 at $159. Second offense is $279. I see people talking on hand held phones while driving all the time.

We passed a law against cell phone usage while driving here some years ago. Even with periodic massive  ticket handouts, it has not stopped it.
The only time it really works is if there's an accident and they can prove seconds before it someone was on the cell phone talking or texting! {then it is their fault automatically}

Well, we stimulated the economy again..now NOT for another 4 months! Minimum! MOH need some new clothes, so we bought some for MOH. Especially summer weight pants for work!

Forgot a new mouse,, this new laser one seems to double, triple and quadruple click whatever we click on!  It makes things disappear or appear that we didn't click on...hope its the mouse and not a virus. SO we should get a new one,,unless i can find where I did with the old one.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, a nice tall glass of lemonade would hit the spot right now.

It done got warm here in the Finger Lakes this afternoon!  Currently 77°F under bright and sunny skies.  I did some banking at the Credit Union for the MLK Committee, mailed out the latest Division Newsletter to those who still live back in the early 20th. century in our membership, stopped at the hobby shop to deliver a counter copy to them, and walked down to the Bank where our 501c3 account is.  They of course were closed having gone on the summer schedule....  Then I glided over to our local Lowes to get some hardware for the raised bed gardens I am building.  Just came upstairs from watching the wheel spin by the inverter for the panels...  Hee hee...Smile, Wink & Grin  4PM here and they have curned out 25Kwh of power alrerady today.  Still have 3 hours of usable power so today should easily break the record for the system.  Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

Mail just came, so I'll be gone for a while.

Evening All,

Waiting on MOH to get home so we can eat (I made spaghetti). I was informed today from w**k that next Thursday when I go back to w**k I have 4 hours of water rescue training that morning. I vacuumed today and loaded the newest version of TomTom maps into my device in preparation to heading north.

Dennis- Thanks for the info. I have not been able to test it since it has been raining most the day.

I decided to work on the layout project since I have a lot of free time this week. I got the track work done but still need to landscape which I will  do Monday. Tomorrow I am getting the oil changed in the truck and then taking my parents out to lunch.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Evening guys.

Well the handrails for the BN and the ATSF SD40-2s showed up. Let's just say the front handrail is a pain in the caboose to put together. The reason, the front handrail for the large anticlimber isn't 1 piece like everything else. It's 5 pieces, the center section, the 2 stantions on the side of the anti-climber, and the 2 handrails that go up from the stairwell to the side stanchions. Let's just say that getting them together is a big PITA, the only thing that seems to hold them is CA.

Ulrich, good luck on the run. What's an MP? I know you don't mean Military Police, but I don't know if you are actually running for Prime Minister? (or whatever germany's leader is called?)

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good evening, Diners!

Ulrich .... I'm very happy for you regarding your new career as a politican. I assume your health situation is better and if so that is the best news from you. .... I'm interested in your post because you said the man with you is an economist. My background includes work in economics, and that is why I was interested. I would hope your party is one that realizes Europe's economic mess is primarily the result of misguilded government economic policies..... Best wishes to you.

Barry ...... I hope your medical appointments go well.

My Doodlebug upgrade thread had some good comments I thought.

Today on the layout, I am back to working on the track plan for my extension.

Cheers, everybody.

Been a busy day. I put together the rotary snow plow kit. That required quite a bit of cutting and fitting parts. It still needs a few pieces that will have to be made for it. What will the Sundown town council do with a rotary snow blower? They're going to add a bunch of small steel blades to the rotary wheel, enclose the front and add a dump tray and conveyor to the bottom of the enclosure so they can dump in paper by the truckload. A steel duct will channel the clippings into a semi trailer. That's right. They are making the biggest rotary PAPER SHREDDER ever seen in this part of the country. Leave it to a bunch of rednecks!

My father and I went to dinner in town at the Los Mayos restaurant. He had enchiladas, beans and rice with sweet tea. I had two tacos, a beef enchilada and chili con queso with a Dr Pepper. Plenty of hot sauce.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
