So, Jake, when do we get to see a photo of the P-38J?  If you are into Aireoplaney thingies, you ought to take a trip up to Hammondsport, NY sometime to the Glenn Curtis Museum.  IIRC there is a motor from a P38 in the collection of WWII engines out in the floor of the museum.  In the middle of those is a Model A Ford Pietenpol Conversion done by my Father in Law...  Looks very small sitting there next to some of those monster rotary engines there.

Me no have photobucket account, so I don't know if I'll ever be able to post pics of the model itself, but will be glad to post a photo of what I hope it will look like.

Here it is. www.flyingmule.com

Good Easter morning everyone.

Heading up to grandmother's later today, and will try to get the Me Bf 109 parts soaking this evening.

Evening gangSigh

Nuttin for me right now Flo, thanks.

Spent all day painting the "master suite", yet we will be sleeping in Bedroom #2 tonight.  The previous owners painted the room USS Missouri gray, and it has taken 3 coats of paint to cover all the gray in the ceiling with antique white. Not to mention the window frames and the baseboard heating units. I also managed to get the 1st coat on the walls. Hopefully I can get the other coats on the walls and the crown molding, bathroom, closet and main doors frames all painted before it is time to go to the in-laws at dinner time.

So it was order-in Chinese for dinner tonight, I only got down the basement for the computer cuz SWMBO ran out to the grocery store for milk for breakfast tomorrow!

See, this is what happens to me when NASCAR takes a weekend off!!Big Smile

I'm gonna pack it in for now, Happy Easter/Passover/ Zombie Jesus Day! (my son, what can I say)Wink

Prayers for those who need them,,,even if they can't tell us, Ulrich???

WhistlingWhisteling "Mr Sandman" going out the door! Whistling

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would do nicely right now....

I got to spend a bit of time with the layout today.  Got more rail painted, and weathered the fencing material.  I put the "Slime" air compressor in the back of the PiP this afternoon also.  Connected the adapter directly to the 12 volt battery so the "Cigarette Lighter" type connection can be used.  The one in the car is only 10 watts and the pump draws 15 Watts so they provide a connector to go directly from the battery.  Plugged it in an checked the air pump.  Putts out some decent volume of air.  The unit that comes with the PiP (no spare tire) works through a slime container and unfortunately the type of slime in it ruins the sensor in the wheel so getting the tire fixed or replaced costs serious $$$.  The actual Slime brand kit doesn't ruin the sensor and is much better in other ways as well.  The whole thing fits down into a concealed storage compartment near the main batteries so it doesn't take up room for cargo.

I also tried out the little battery powered chain saw I bought.  It will do nicely for trimming trees and such things which is all I need it for these days.  Very light and can be operated with one hand safely if needed.

Thee news for the day is...  That big yellow thing was out and shining most all day.  So...  Today set a major record for power from the solar panels.  They produced 26.6 KWh of electric today!  Today the electric company gets to pay me! Smile, Wink & Grin

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter, Passover, and/or whatever you celebrate this time of year!  Prayers for all of you my friends!

I landed a good score today on Ebay for five packs of Kadee couplers. Two packs of #147 underset shank Whisker couplers and three packs of #119 SE shelf couplers for one portrait of Andrew Jackson. I was looking for an FP7 that had a low price on it but it looks like somebody beat me to it. Went down to my fathers place today for dinner. Chili dogs. We watched Wheel of Fortune afterward then I headed back home.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Hum, so Jeffery, you like my weathering? Big Smile  99% certain that was my Cotton Belt car I traded to Vince's for Shaky and Brokey! If not I have it brother still around here if you want it.

It wasn't weathered when I got it. It was shiny new. I gave it the alcohol treatment to make it look like it does now. Most of the others are weathered. Libby's Famous Food, a couple of MNS boxcars, a 40' Frisco, a 50' Great Northern (red) and an Apalachicola and Northern 50' boxcar.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Pleases.

Been a trying day today. Went to go to work, car battery was deader than a door nail!  Took me 45 minutes to dig out the battery charger (big 40 pound one on wheels) and get the car started. Then there was a over tuned Semi going across the bridge going to St Louis so I was late by a hour and 15 minutes. I could have started the car faster, but the faces of the Battery Charger is so fade, I did not see it was on trickle charge for 15 minutes!

Oh, the reason the battery was dead? Whistling I dropped a quarter in the car and turned on the interior lights and forgot to turn them off! Whistling Being a guy, I blamed it on the wife when I did get to work! Smile, Wink & Grin

Vincent: I got those boxcars today. It was rather like unwrapping a Christmas present at Easter. I was pleased with the surprises in store. They should keep me busy for a little while.

Hum, so Jeffery, you like my weathering? Big Smile  99% certain that was my Cotton Belt car I traded to Vince's for Shaky and Brokey! If not I have it brother still around here if you want it.

Speaking of Brokey the PK 2000 SD 9, I am hoping the center gears are cracked, I have parts of that on hand.

Vince's I am still happy with our trade! Way I look at it I got two nice 1970 Chrysler Hurst 300 that need some tinkering (by the way look up what a 1970 Chrysler Hurst 300 is sweet land barge) and hit with a hammer to get to run. Now if the 2 1970 340 Duster (PK 1000 F's 3) need work! Whistling Well, you will be on my Ford list! Wait, you all ready are! Laugh

Evening All,

Back from the club early since I w**k tomorrow. A friend at the club traded me a brand new Atlas PRR x-26 Box car for 2 structures that I am not using. He is happy and I am happy

Well I really don't have anything to talk about so I hope everyone has a good Easter and prayers for those in need.

New toys are always nice Jeffery. Last week was like Christmas around here for me. Five days of mail delivery and 4 days of rail road deliveries. Loved it. Mind you, Santa didn't do the purchasing unfortunately.

That alcohol sure does a job on the lettering. Have to remember that one.

Cheers

Dennis

Yeah Dennis It was like that for me also. Three days of railroad packages in the door when I got home from work, lol

I was doing some weathering today on a open hopper but didn't like the way it was going so stripped it with windex ( I fade my cars first with acrylic ) so I will start again tomorrow. I have to go by the hobby shop on Monday to see if he has any Polyscale "dust" or "aged concrete" my two go too colors for fades. Also I am still finalizing a order to put in at another shop here for some more freight cars.

I had breakfast today at my parents and am heading over again tomorrow for Easter dinner. I hope everybody here has a good day tomorrow. Well Im heading back to the layout to tidy up and clean up the workbench. It looks like a tornado hit it Stick out tongue

hmmmmm, well it'll be shorter than my bed by a foot or two. hmmmmmm, I think I might do that.

What? ya'll ain't never heard of a bedside model train layout? that's how my last one was, Laugh it's awesome waking up to see your trains ready to run.

Good idea. I'll have to run that idea by my parents though I'll be heading off to college in less than a year's time.

well you could make it modular, I'm still going to the local community college(I can only afford one class a quarter). yeah, I'm not sure if/when I do go to a 4 year school if I'd bring my trains or not.

one of the few downsides I can think of to a bed side layout is if there's a divider "OTL" that'll block vision, accidental derailments(if you thrash or move alot in your sleep, I unfortunately do), bumping the layout, and probably where to place the Powerpack(if you're DC like me).

nah, actually I feel rather energetic running on 5 hours but I know I'm gonna pay for it after work. I can't stand not having a layout anymore, I can't decide between 4' x 6' or 4' x 4'. everybody keeps telling me 4' x 6' but I want to be minimalistic with the layout footprint.

Split the difference and go 4x5.

Gee, ya think? I'm not a sports guy but I frequently find myself still awake early in the morning working on a loco or a freight car or something on the layout. Glad I don't have any job or school to go to. My college courses were wrapped up long ago. I can sum up the course of study in one word: Computers. I was just catching up on the technology a bit. My previous knowledge stopped at 1991 when the AT/Xt's were still around.

Vincent: I got those boxcars today. It was rather like unwrapping a Christmas present at Easter. I was pleased with the surprises in store. They should keep me busy for a little while. I'll have your box on it's way to you Monday..

Afternoon guys

Work today was a killer. I never had a chance to even go bathroom or take a drink. I could barely speak at the end from being so parched. I relieved myself the second I got off, then turned around and downed 40 ounces of water (a 20 oz. cup filled twice). Then I went to home depot to see if they had the mini-sandblaster I saw on there webpage in the store. Nope, but the website says bot "In-store" and "Online exclusive." I didn't check Sears, figure there would be a crowd at the mall it's attached to with some easter festivies they have going on there.

Dunno what 'm going to do today. I just won another BLI NW2 with sound/DCC. This one at $105. So I have 2 of those. Definately designated yard goats. They pull a little better than my Athearn RTR SW10 and SW15, but they are soo slow. I think their top speed is around 25 scale MPH... The SW10 and SW15 could be used in either local or yard service on the BN. When I get this one, I'll look to see how much more weight can be added before I order more lead sheet.

Jeff, good to see it got there in time. Those E&C cars do have issues on tighter radiuses; even more so with over-flanged plastic wheelsets. I've notched parts of the underframe out with an Xacto kinfe to do the same thing. Can't wait for my box so I can start tinkering with it (even if most of it is for parts).

Dennis, A female friend of mine asked me to take her to the movies. I really want to see Olympus has Fallen.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I received a box today that contained eight boxcars, four of which require varying amounts of work. Just little things like couplers, trucks, wheels. The other four were ready to go. Most of them have already been weathered. Saves me from doing it. Two however weren't. One is a MDC 50' insulated plug door boxcar (171185) that needs couplers. The lettering on it is so glossy the light reflecting reflecting off them was about to scorch my retinas. The other is a Cotton Belt 50' double door boxcar (SSW 47295) that looked new and had crisp clean white and yellow lettering and logo. Two minutes work involving a paper towel and some 91% alcohol took care of that. It going to require a little work on the underside. One wheelset is rubbing against part of the frame. A few seconds work with a Dremel will solve that problem.

(Stumbles in covering eyes to protect them) Mornin'!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of organic pumpkin seed granola and lots of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug.  Please and thank you Ma'am!

Whoa...  This is the first time this has happened in over a month.  First I didn't even wake up this morning until 10AM, then I cam out and it is all bright outside with some big yellow thing up in the blue sky!  We got shadows and everything.  Currently 45°F under bright sunny skies here in the Finger Lakes with the same thing forecast for all day with a high of 49°F this afternoon.

Jeffrey, I see passenger service is running this morning on the MGR.

I have a bunch of stuff I should be doing today and will likely spend some quality time hiding down cellar in the train room to avoid getting a sunburn outside...

Later!

Thayne:  Your Willie Nelson quote reminded me of a comedian I heard many years ago,  His name escapes me now.  He did sound effects just with his mouth and a microphone.  He was GOOD.  I was lucky enough to catch a live performance and later acquired a recording of his work which I can't locate now.  One of the stories he told was about when he was returning home from a gig and he passed through a small sleepy little town in the middle of the night that had an abandoned RR track.  He decided he'd bring the trains back to the town.  Of course, he had an amplifier and speaker installed in his car, so he made the sounds of a train passing through the town.  He did this every night that he drove through the town.  He said he had the townspeople digging up the tracks looking for the train.  The other story I remember involved Halloween.  He installed speakers in the house next door which was under construction and when the children came up his front sidewalk he'd make the sounds of wild animals, especially the big cats, snarling and growling.  He said that one father bringing his little child to his house was so terrified that he turned and ran, leaving his child standing on the sidewalk.  Boy, I wish I could find that recording!

Good morning. It's 59° with 100% humidity. There's a fair chance of rain. The high will be 78°.

It's very cloudy here. No rain yet. I have no plans for anything today. Just whatever comes up I guess. Looks like the next thing I'll be needing for the FP7's is #37 Kadee couplers for the pilots. Modifying the rear coupler mount for a #148 is easy. But doing that kind of modification on the pilot would require more work. It's far easier to simply mount an undershank coupler. Two packs would do it. Guess Ebay would be my best bet.

Concerns for Ulrich, hope he is doing well.

Good morning.

Going to tie up some loose ends on my P-38 before starting on the Me 109. Some final assembly, paint and decals are all that are needed.
