Jim's diesel tune up article talks about using Aristo-Electralube #29602 on the king pins during reassembly. I was doing a search to find out where to buy it (couldn't find a source yet) and ran into a piece about this product not being plastic compatible. So does anyone know where to buy this product and should I keep trying to find it. Jim wouldn't suggest it I wouldn't think if there was a problem with it. Who sells it in the 2oz bottles. Doug
I believe that it is made by Aristo-Craft. If you look them up, they have an address that is in Irvington, NJ, as printed on the bottle shown in the article.
Also, the bottle label, shown in the article, says that the product is plastic compatible. However, as you say, there seems to be some difference of opinion on that subject. See all the way to the bottom of: http://www.elmassian.com/trains/rolling-stock-mods-aamp-tips/aristo-rolling-stock
Regarding its conductivity, there is a mention here: http://www.mylargescale.com/Community/Forums/tabid/56/aff/14/afv/topic/aft/22827/mid/389/dnnprintmode/true/Default.aspx?skinsrc=%5BG%5DSkins%2F_default%2FNo+Skin&containersrc=%5BG%5DContainers%2F_default%2FNo+Container
Jim used the stuff on a metal to metal kingpin joint, so used in moderation it is probably okay. But I would keep it off everything else. I think I would use plastic compatible Labelle grease and oil as appropriate on everything else.
Thanks for the links. I have always used Labelle products but this article caught my attention and I appreciate your input. Doug
An alternative is Aero-Locomotive Works Conducta Lube. It's definitely plastic safe. Blackstone recommends using it on their HOn3 locos.
