Have you noticed how fast Overland produces new locomotive models, kind of makes me wonder if they do some for EMD and GE. Only think that cause they release a new model and a few weeks later Overland has a production started as well.

Kato for N scale. Atlas seems to be stuck in 1st generation models. HO scale, probably everyone at the same time. Thats really the only drawback to N. But, in all seriousness, are there much exterior differences between say the SD70MAC and the SD10ACe? Would it just be easier/cheaper to modify the MAC model? Or am I just blowing smoke?

SD70ACe's have a squarer nose and a little different body styling than SD70MAC's. I'll be kato or athearn will make it first in HO.

i wonder if OMI has the only rights to do this locomotive like they have on the flaired SD70M's in HO scale. if they do end up coming in plastic, i would put my money on Kato. Athearn Genesis would be a distant second. it all depends on how many railroads end up ordering this locomotive. if it is only one or two, we might never see one except for maybe a resin shell from someone.

Here's a good way to tell the difference, SD70ACe's are ugly, SD70MAC's aren't. [;)]

Wow! What a pile of power! Thanks for the links, NightCrawler, I took the bait! At first, the fourty seven-hundred class looks to be in front of the paint shop, however the building in the left background looks like the engine shop. Know, the locomotive is probably there for training purposes. The second photo, has everything, including the kitchen sink. Thanks, Enjoy Your Hobby! ACJ.

I don't care how ugly the SD70ACe is, I still like it very much!

I really like the nose on the 60-series and early 70- and 90-series locomotives, and the new nose and cab is a major step in the wrong direction. That said, I really like the look of the tail ends of the SD70ACe and SD90MAC-H. But of course, that's not what was asked, in response to that I haven't seen the old RPP SD90MAC-H shells, but I would assume that would be a good starting point for modelling a SD70ACe, giving Athearn a leg-up on the competition if they chose to produce an SD70ACe. Of course, I don't really think Athearn is going to be producing new models for a while, least of all of a prototype that only exists in two schemes right now.

Kato is probably your best bet, but I think there's a good chance we're not going to see any plastic models of the SD70ACe anytime soon, or maybe we'll get some models from somebody I've never heard of.

RPP Shell is the best starting place too bad their no longer available and yes overland has a contract with EMD so no plastic in HO for a while

We have full-color scale drawings of this locomotive (drawings by Jeff Capps, color added by our own Rick Johnson) coming in the November issue. That issue includes a foldout with drawings of another locomotive as well, but I'll let the second locomotive be a surprise for now. Any guesses? There's a hint in your October issue.

Athearn and Atlas already make a GP38, but that didn't seem to phase P2K one bit!

BNSF is ordering almost 400 more and UP is ordering some, don't know about NS yet.

Those are cool looking. They seem to be smaller and more compact looking plus the radiators at the back are more rounded at the top. Thanks for the picture comparison.
