Same Old Stuff
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 13, 2004 9:01 AM
This Forum is dull, same old topics stay on the front page, day after day, why is this? Why are people not posting some new stuff, to liven this place up, very few new posts, like for instance, Is Cat acquiring EMD? Anyone heard any late word about this possible acquisition?

Bored & Bewildered.

Aggro and Karl - you guys crack me up ! That was too funny. Laugh along with us, Mac. Come on, they made a funny. . .

Mac, have you seen that ad on TV for Las Vegas with the several slightly tacky young women in a limo on their way home from a "good time" in Vegas, and that it takes lot of ribbing from the other gals to get one of them to finally breakdown and laugh her butt off at whatever best-forgotten, 'unmentionable act she had committed away from home' while on vacation ?

That ad has nothing to do with this topic, so laugh damnit - laugh, it will make you feel better.

Howdy Trackster,
I'm not sure what EMD is, but the CAT road constr equipment produced by Norscot looks great in my heavy equipment yard. I've bought most of the pieces for $20-30 Cdn straight from the CAT (Finning) Dealership. There is a brass collector piece also, but that is way out of my league (about $425 Cdn) - I have no idea what it is anymore, as I haven't seen it for a few months... lots of moving parts and tiny chains. Probably worth a lot more in about 10 years... or not.
anyway Mac, what about your railroad - era, scale, design... ?
cheers

cheers, krump

I wi***here was the ability to block certain message threads like on newsgroups, it would make reading relevant ones easier. Some threads seem to go on forever and many have very little to do if anything about model railroading. Way too much chaff posted. [xx(]

krump...EMD is the locomotive building branch of General motors, it is now called GMLG, or General Motors Locomotive Group, I have a flatcar loaded with a couple of Norscot dozers, Looks real nice, chained down to the deck with scale chain. The $425 brass model that you refer to is probably made by CCM, Classic Construiction Models www.ccmodels.com They make beautiful brass models of dozers, draglines, cranes and heavy haul trucks, in different scales including HO. My railroad is modern era, HO scale, and it may be a dirty word to some, but I model contempary Union Pacific, What do you model? Thanks for your interest.

Trackster,
I'm working on a 10 X 14 ft room layout, HO scale - original stuff from age 9, and castaway stuff, garage sale and thrift store treasures, some new purchases and gifts or givens, extras and leftovers--- in other words a very unique gathering (dare I say "collection") of other peoples former hobby... after living in a box for 20 yrs, the train needed some space.
Three yrs ago we moved to a new town in the country, and I had extra time, and a room, I recycled my hobby, joined the local Model R/R club (exceptional group of modellers actually, many NMRA awards among the club and its members) and began planning my new layout - it began as another 4X8, but now is being transformed to the room design with DCC... more time and room than money at present (3 young kids, spouse and single income household = busy times) ... I took the initials of all family members C A S T and, true to description, the name "CAST-Away RailRoad" resulted.
My era is primarily focussed in the 70's - 80's, and as I noted elsewhere in another topic, my town is a combination - merging Vancouver / Fraser Valley, with Edmonton, Michigan, California, Haiti, and Prince George... all significant places, offices (Courts, jails etc- I work in Corrections) businesses or residences to us.
So it is a new work in progress - I'm repainting about 15 duplicate freight cars from starter sets, to my own CAST-Away Railroad colours (blue and green, with gold lettering) BUT I'm also letting each of the kids (8,7,5 yrs) paint one of the frieghtcars in whatever way they want, putting their name on the car, the freight # will be each of their birthdates...
now for the benchwork around the room - needs to double as my library / office / display case- so the next 4-5 months will get that organized.

I'm beginning to collect a few Marklin items also. And my future goal would be to have the layout / trackwork double-function with HO and On30

that's enough to keep me busy for now. Church activities, kids activities, fishing, working, and hobby-farming have also got to be fit in... That's why it's a long term hobby
and not a career. [C):-)][:D]

cheers, krump

Krump.....I can tell that you are going to have a lot of fun, and at the same time be very busy with that young family, cheri***hem while they are young, they don"t stay that way long, before you know it, they will be all grown up, and sounds like your railroad is going to be growing as well, Best of luck to ya in everything you do. Cheers

Trackster-

Now that the dust has settled, wecome to the Forum ! Hang in there, this place has been having some 'growing (up) pains' lately, and a lot of members are a bit burned out on the mud slinging, flaming, name calliing, and statements like "my railroad is longer than your railroad", or "my prototype is less greedy than yours."

You'll enjoy the rank and file here and hopefully you will find it a big assist to your model railroading, as I have. Look forward to you sharing your railroading background and unique experiences with us.

Trackster - I checked the webpage link you provided: the item I refer to is the pipefitter item ($283 USD listed in 1/87 HO), I believe that Norscot also distributes the item, but it's been a few months and I'm no longer convinced.

Could it be this is the "Off Season"?
