AMI Instant Roadbed - Your Opinions Please
Posted by CSXFanAlso on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 11:41 AM
I am about to start laying down a "Preliminary" track plan for a new layout I am building and am pondering using AMI's Instant Roadbed over Woodland Senic's roadbed or standard cork. Has anyone used AMI's roadbed and if you have, was it a good/bad experience? I am building a simple layout with a styrafoam base and I wanted to avoid using glues or liquid nails to hold the track in place. AMI's roadbed seems like a good solution, but I wonder if it is workable. (i.e. If I screw up how bad is it going to cost me?) Thanks for your input on this!

i use AMi and it is a very good product. Layed over styrofoam you can also use nails to secure your track (and the nails can be easily removed. The ami is very flexible and sound absorbing and can be used in additional ways such as making streets, railroad crossings, etc. If you don't like it just pull it up. they say is holds ballast without glue but I haven't tried that.

I have used the AMI product for roads and am pleased with the results. I have also used it as a glue for various items and have found it works great and in some cases be a substitute for Goo.

I just built a layout using this product. It really speeded up the track laying process. It is lower than cork, and you have to bevel it. I was not able to get it to hold ballast by itself, as the ballast I used tended to break up when pressed, so I nailed the track down, glueed ballast, then removed the nails. I like the product.
