Not bad but please........U-Boats!!! Not Dash Sevens. Plenty of these out there already! The GE U-Boats (inspite of their initial flaws) are what started the ball rolling for GE in the "Horsepower Wars" with EMD in the late 60s early 70s.[sigh][sigh]

BigBoy 4015,
With all due respect, the Atlas GE Dash 7 model is decently detailed and incredibly smooth running! Much better than the Athearn U-boats many of us own that want 4 axle U33 or U36 models!

Nothing I have to worry about. By the sound's of it, there won't be a Canadian road name in the mix.
Broadway looks & sounds nice but they seem to want to cater to the US market, which is fine with me as I don't have the want or need to buy one.

They're only MOSTLY catering to the US market (which is, after all, gigantic compared to the Canadian market). Check out Canadian Model Trains' website for an Oriental brass & cast Canadian steamer with QSI sound. Oriental is owned by the same guys who own Broadway Limited (which makes them the same manufacturer in my book!)

I will agree though, that you Canadian guys generally get the short end of the modeling stick, especially the steam guys. Hopefully that will change in the near future (I really want BLI to come out with 6060!)

You seemed to very involved with BLI. You are very defensive of any comments about their models.
Well what about this problem I am having with the M1 I just bought.
The engine sits quiet for the first 4 volts then at 5 volts the sound starts and then at 10 volts the engine starts to move. Then at 15 volts it stops and sounds like an alarm on a car that is being broken into. I tried to double head with another, non BLI engine but it started to run at 4 volts and that made it impossible to work together. Is this right?

TrainGuy1700,

You likely paid hard earned money for your locomotive! With the electronic related problems that you're describing, I would not wait. I would demand that if this unit cannot be repaired within a short time that it be exchanged for another one.

I would suggest that you e-mail this thread to BLI. One modeler did this recently on another thread and received a response as he included his e-mail address.

I like the BLI's myself but as I mentioned on another thread, Broadway has been having problems with a small but significant percentage of the locomotives that they've been releasing. The majority of them being steamers though a vendor I spoke to reported that some of the GG1s had mechanical problems. He indicated that BLI made an effort to satisfy customers with problems.

Hopefully Broadway Limited managers are working aggresively to resolve some of these issues. I'm just "assuming" but I imagine that it must be somtimes difficult for management since the units are built in China, so there's probably plenty of phoning,
e-mailing, and faxing going on.

Yes, it´s right.
I have a similar problem with my two Trix BIG BOY´s one DC and one DCC - its real the same! So I doublehead my DCC BIG BOY with Lionel´s Veranda!

Because you know the power, I´m sure that you operate in DC (I too).
I´m a little confuse about "15 Volts" !!! - The maximum input is normaly 12 Volts!
I never used such a high voltage. I think it´s real possible that there is also a safety level "included", sounds logical.

If you are searching for more information the QSI homepage is good. QSI is the manufactor of Lionel´s and BLI´s sound and DCC control modules - Available separate: EACH COSTS 189 BUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!! NO JOKE!!!!!

AntonioFP45,

When I´m right he operate his layout with DC (NOT DCC !!!!). And then is all that he wrote normal !!!!!

The high start voltage and all this facts sounds normal !!! Only the "Voltage to high" alarm I never hear before!

All my BLI´s, my Lionel Veranda and my TRIX DCC Bigboy works in this way !!!

SOMETIMES YOU GOTTA COMPROMISE !

This is important when you run DCC models under DC !!!!

BTW: BLI´s manufactor is in KOREA not CHINA.

Note to TRAINGUY1700:

Doubleheading two DCC locos will work!!!

BigBoy4015, [;)]

Thanks for the correction regarding where BLI's are manufactured.

By the way, I did not even mention DCC. The majority of the problems with the GG1s were mechanical as were the problems with the BLI steamers. Though, some of the steamers did have DCC related problems. As I indicated the percentage is "low" but it's stll significant.

It's a known fact that all of the model railroad manufacturers encounter problems with products from time to time. They're still good products and as the manufacturer's listen and read customer and vendor input, they'll make improvements accordingly. Trainguy's problem may be an easy one to solve, but my point is that he should get it checked out.......if there is a problem that can't be fixed........exchange it.

Peace out! [:D][8)][8D]

AntonioFP45,

I know that the GG1´s have a mechanical problem! That´s right and not good.

But the "problem" that TRAINGUY1700 describes is in exact this way in the manual.
This manuals are the real problem. HEY THIS ARE REAL BOOKS TODAY!

However, Most of us will "RUN" their locomotive.

The BLI / QSI DCC operation manual - not included, A PDF download - has 137 pages (ONLY ENGLISH !). The DC one is smaler with 34 pages. When you had read this instruction you know much more about the electronic! In this manuals you will find nothing about the prototype !

MOST OF US SAY: I WILL NOT READ A BOOK, I WILL RUN MY TRAINS !!!

So the quick start manual of LIONEL is a good idea - one little sheet of paper declares all main functions!

The C30-7 is a piece of GE swill! The only good GE's were built before 1961. My humble opinion.

Personally, none of these items mean anything to me. Sure they'll be nice to see out, but I would buy any of them. I though BLI decided not to do a N&W J cause Bachmann did one, and have a freight version coming soon. Oh well.
