Thanks to a few helpful people at Yahoo's CB&Q group, I have the consist of the Zephyr I want to model:
Consist (St. Louis to Burlington) as of 1947 (I model 1948)
Power: CB&Q #9913 E5 "Silver Wings"
Mail-Baggage: CRI&P #500 (heavyweight)
Baggage: CRI&P #861 (heavyweight)
Coach: (52 seats) CRI&P #312 "Waterloo"
10/3 Sleeper: Pullman "Cedar Rapids" 24/16 diner
Sleeper: CRI&P "Rocket Tower"
Parlor Observ: CRI&P #433 "St. Paul"
Does anyone have any information on these cars, or are there any books with info. about them? And look at the motive power-I'll have to kitba***hat stinkin' E5 now.[;)] The same people who emailed me this said to go to Rock Island Technical Society"s (RITS) website.
Plan to see many, MANY more posts asking for info. from me, in about 4 months I should have room for a layout![:D][:p]
Thanks in advance,
Christopher

Re the consist you plan to model CRI&P 500 was a heavyweight Baggage 30'Railway Post Office Car, 861 was a heavyweight Baggage Express Car. The 52-revenue seat coach 312 Waterloo was streamlined built by Pullman Standard in October 1940. Cedar Rapids was originally Villa Anita a 10-Section 3-Double Bedroom Sleeping Car originally built in March 1911 and renovated in December 1940 receiving the name Cedar Rapids at that time. The Rocket Tower the other heavyweight sleeping car was originally built as a 10-Section 2-Drawing Room Car named Costella Peak built in December 1928-January 1929. The car was rebuilt to a 8-Section 1-Drawing Room 3-Double Bedroom sleeping car in July 1941 and added to the Zephyr Rocket. 433 St. Paul delivered by Pullman Standard in November 1940 featured a Kitchen followed by a 24-Seat dining room three tables for four on either side of the center aisle and 16-seat Parlor Observation. Since the Zephyr-Rocket operated in overnight service the Parlor space was soon being used for a lounge with drinks served in Iowa, Missouri, and Minnesota. Hope this helps you with the information on the cars.

The E-5 will be relatively easy. Just use a Proto 2000 or BLI E-6. As for the Heavyweight cars you have a good selection to start with and New England Rails makes window replacements and ac duct work for the Pullmans. As for the Light weights, AHM makes a smooth side coach that could be used as a stand in. The observation, your only hope is to bite the bullet and purchase the car that is being produced by Railway Classics.
