Cheap operating flashing FREDs

Does anybody know where I can find a cheap, track power flashing FRED, preferibly with a capacitor to hold power for a while when the track power is
off[?] I have seen a version that is perfect from Richmond Controls, but it's $35.00 + shipping. I was hoping maybe somebody might know of a cheaper version. Maybe there is a way I could make my own with a pre assembled and preprogramed for flashing circut board?

I went to radio shack and picked up the following for HO.
Blinking red led, 2.8 volt, single clear bulb, part# 276-308- $1.80
Flush mounted slider switch,spdt pack of two, part# 275-409A-$2.00
Aaa battery harness clip enclosed in case, part# 270-414-$1.20
Two Aaa batteries
Double sided tape to mount battery case on inside floor
Two screws/nuts to mount slider switch(can be 2-56s ) which can be installed
on roof or side of car.Drill a hole just above the rear coupler to seat the bulb.
Connect
Adds approx 2 to 2.50 oz to the car

Not being DCC, I had no choice in the matter, didn't want to get re-ended.

One can also do the same on a caboose, for a constant on red , just by getting a non-blinking led.

ADDENDUM:
On the caboose I use a smaller red led, 5mm, part# 276.209, insert it into
the rear wide railing into the caboose body. and connect to above assembly.

Also used the same idea in the rear roof of my Athearn 72' observation
end car by drilling a hole to seat the led and connect to the above assembly.

I am using a Sunrise FRED ($10) N Scale and building my own flashing circuit. The flashing ciruict will cost less than $1 in parts.

Jaybee sells a Flashing FRED for Athearn Cabooses that can easily be addapted to other freight cars. I think it listed for #12.00 and is described as being battery powered.
