Peco Code 83

I've been told elsewhere that the Atlas Code 83 ties are thicker so that the railhead comes out even with the railhead on their Code 100 - simplifying transitions, that's for sure. But I would guess that if Walthers/Shinohara and Peco don't do the same, there would be problems.

My memory is starting to kick in (cob webs!) I think that the discrepancy was between the Atlas and the Walthers Shinohara track and it was the ties.

Well code 83 is code 83. It refers to the height of the rail in, I believe, thousandths of an inch. However, I do recall something about different brands of the same code not lining up. This was due to the ties being different sizes, though. The rail should all be the same height for the same code.

At least that's the way I understand it.

While they're all code 83, two of these products supposedly don't "butt" up snuggly against each other when connected by rail joiners. I'm not sure as to which two. The difference is in the rail height.
