Wwasi,
You might want to consider the PDT under the floor power truck from NorthWest Short Line:

wwasi,
I installed a can motor ( from a VCR) and an Ernst regear kit in one of the older Athearn RDCs.
The Ernst kit is designed for the newer style Athearn motor with a 1/8" shaft. If you have the older version I would recommend replacing the motor anyway.
It runs OK , but as with most Ernst regears it has some gear noise.
I am considering using a self propelled underfloor power truck on the other one I have.

wwasi,

I started another RDC drive thread. There might be some info in there that can help you out.

Hello WWASI,

Go to www.ppw-aline.com

This company has excellent repowering kits as well as individual powering components for smooth, high quality running. Mashima motors are top of the line, and are a big step up from the standard Athearn drive. You can also e-mail them with any questions you have. They're very good about responding!

After I finish repainting and metalizing my Bachmann HO Metroliner bodies into Penn Central, I'll be ordering a repower kit from this company.

Hope this helps!

Peace out and God Bless!
