modelrailroading, like life, is a cornucopia. Let's enjoy it all, and as my generation used to espouse in the 60's " hang loose "

Well,I always love the self appointed moderators..Let the moderators at MR decide on what is the right or wrong with this or that type of topic..Please and Thanks!
You see by doing that one does not need to worry about getting flame or starting a fuss that the poster never intended.

Think about what you just wrote...how many times have I said "keep it about trains?" , , and really how many times did I go head to head with you know who over folks having fun on the forums? My point was this is a place for fun...ifsomeone says "lets keep it about models only", then we might as well get rid of darn near most the topics that come up. I wasn't flaming you hoss. If I was gonna do that you'd know. i'm on the side of fun...I have a job already, I don't need to come here to be bored.

Acoustics is my life.....

F sub 1 being the highest up doppler as it approches, F sub 2 being the lowest down before contact is lost. F sub zero would be the frequency as close to true as it passes by at the closest point of approach. Once F sub zero is determined a speed can be determined of the object based on the frequency, as long as no other factor changes........

oh sorry........Broadway

The previous post by ' leighant ' is very relevant --- It is impossible to separate real railroading -past or present - from model railroading especially with the ever increasing attention to prototype operations and concern for accurate models of those prototypes by most model railroaders. Although I haven't been an active Forum participant until recently I have found it to be an extremely beneficial asset facilitating my return to model railroading after approx ten years of distractions, excuses and other priorities. I feel very fortunate to have such resources just a 'click' away at any time. I am also an active member of Kalmbach's "Scale Auto" Forum - (one of my distractions) and I suggest that it be viewed by those not content with the format of this Forum, or how it is being 'used'. Essentially the "Scale Auto" Forum has a far more expanded 'outline' separated into approx a dozen sub-forums (for a lack of another term to describe its format). Refer to www.scaleautomag.com and see for yourself. My humble opinion is that there is far too much complexity to both real railroading and model railroading to expect a single 'General Discussion Forum' to handle the breadth & diversity of our hobby - consider we are modeling or researching or discussing an industry that has evolved over the last 170 years approx, covering hundreds of railroads, thousands of prototypes-engines, rolling stock, & infrastructure, geography, mergers, operating rules, lineside industries, population and social trends, and so on. And that's just the prototype side of this hobby -we have quite a few different scales and gauges (within those scales), manufacturers-past & present, RTR, shake -the-box, kitbashing, craftsman level and scratchbuilt models made from wood, plastic, resin & metal, plus paint, decals & weathering, benchwork, trackwork, scenery, and electronics-throw in realistic operations, free-lancers & rivet counters, too. Look at the sheer # of topics alone under 'General Discussion' - then factor in the # of replys to that originating post, and then the # of times it was viewed. This will fast become, in my opinion, an unmanageable portion of the MR Forum if it remains a catchall for almost every conceivable ' topic'. . .and each of those' topics' is important to the originator and of value to all of us. And what if, a year or two from now, you need some particular info and vaguely recall something posted about it, but you just can't recall where or when, because there will be thousands more posts to "General Discussion" between now and then. Just thought I'd include my 2 cents worth, too.

OK evryone shuld understans this. I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH POSTINGS ON REAL TRAINS. just sometimes their seems to be too much and would be better off pplaced in the prototype forum. Just my 2 cents. Also their is no need to make fun of me for brining up this topic.
derailment? what derailment? All reports of derailments are lies. Their are no derailments within a hundreed miles of here.

Somtimes one thing leads to another. A perfect example is a question about the availability of concrete turnouts for model track. The post started out about the modeling but it brought up the question on prototype practice. How can you pick up everything, so to speak, and move it to a different heading and still continue the threads?

PMS huh?

Thats Really NOT somehting to Joke about, I have a Girlfriend, and you don't even want to be in the same country when her uhh.. "wheels start rolling", to keep this on the side of trains.

and she'll openly admit to that.

So trust me, there is NOT ONE guy in this foruym, that is PMSing, rather letting go of some steam.

someone is right, you can't discriminate on this forum, if you say 1:1 isn't allowed, that's like saying 1:1 people aren't allowed on the bus.

I personally like them all 1:1, 1:2, 1:87 1: N scale 1:O scale and that new one Cheerios is comming out with this Christmas, the 1:100,000,000 scale, need a magnifying glass, and a pair of ultra-thin tweezers, Sold seperately.

He He He, Chuckle Chuckle Chuckle, Ha Ha Ha, Hmmmmm. I suppose I should not respond to this General Discussion lest I incur the wrath of, dare I say it?, Rivet Counters? There, I said it.

Most replys are correct to point out that this is indeed a General Discussion. I get a kick out of anyone who thinks it otherwise. But in support of those who just get confused and end up in the wrong spot looking for something different, well, you will find it if you keep looking.

No harm, No foul. No offense taken and none meant.

PMS a problem? Try living with someone w/ menapause for past three + years! My 19 yr. old son says "that 'menapause' means the period (no pun intended- 'er, well maybe just a bit) when women put men on pause. . ."

You guys are WAY too uptight[:p],I know it's been a long winter for everyone, but don't let it get the best of you.I apologize if I offended anyone, but have you been to the Trains Magazine Forums? There are a LOT of model RR topics posted there, and we all do have pretty much the same interests at heart,so don't let the little things get to you! Add some humor to your life!!!!!![:D]Not to mention that there is NOTHING offensive about lawn gnomes ..and if ya can't take a joke........ ya can't leave one either!

My wife went thru Menopause for about 7-8 years and then was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. Thank God we caught it in time and after surgery and chemo she has a clean bill of health with a great prognoses. I know we guys yank alot of chains about, and thats ok but please don't ever take it for granted, it can be dangerous.

I apologize if I came across as insensitive--the fairer sex does have many medical conditions that we don't or can't (as men) quite understand. I'm glad your wife is doing well and no harm was meant in any of my above posts. Best wishes to you emeraldisle and your wife, emory.
