How do I do this ?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, February 27, 2004 7:35 PM
I would like to have a layout that has at least on streamliner and has some intinse operation when I want it, but I would like to have an atmosphere like this. http://www.edisaurus.com/trains/mkt/mkt105.htm any tips how ? I would go to branchline modeling in a heart beat if I knew I was not going to loose to much operation. I am not talking branchline like the one in the photo, but it would not quite be a mainline. I like this atmosphere, but I also like mailine ! Thanks

Alex:

Not entirely sure what you are asking in relation to the posted picture. How about some help as to scale, size of layout and era?

I like the sencery, track and over all efect of the photo. but a small train is not going to offer alot of operation? Is the same efect possible witha mainline ? Thanks !

When you say a small train, are you referring to the length of the train or the number of cars ? I think you get more of a sensation of speed with a shorter train than with a long drag. Make your passenger trains short and your freight trains longer. The longer train just seems to go slower, IMHO.

Running your trains from "city" to "city" can be just as complicated or as simple as you want to make it. A lot of it would be done through your scenery, so that there is some kind of separation between one city and another. You could still make the mainline a continuous running line, with switches to allow you to drop off passengers, freight, etc., at each city.
