When you say a small train, are you referring to the length of the train or the number of cars ? I think you get more of a sensation of speed with a shorter train than with a long drag. Make your passenger trains short and your freight trains longer. The longer train just seems to go slower, IMHO. <br /> <br />Running your trains from "city" to "city" can be just as complicated or as simple as you want to make it. A lot of it would be done through your scenery, so that there is some kind of separation between one city and another. You could still make the mainline a continuous running line, with switches to allow you to drop off passengers, freight, etc., at each city.
