I had heard that they were not going to be imported due to the exchange rate situation - the Euro took off compared to the USA dollar in the past year or so.

Hello nfmisso,

QUOTE: the Euro took off compared to the USA dollar in the past year or so.

The Euro hasn't changed, in fact most currencies that aren't moderated by the US have not changed at all. The Canadian$ is so closely tied to the US$ that it is getting sucked down too. The plummeting US$ is currently at its lowest global value within living memory. The way things are going, imported goods of any kind will start to disappear.

Of course this makes for cheap American goods overseas which is why the US economy is booming and all US exporting companies are seeing such huge profits. At home a buck is a buck but overseas you will need about $1.40 in Bushbux to buy what a Clintonbuck would. Some countries you'll need more.

Roco stopped all of it's movement on all of it's American prototype units (AC4400 and GP40-2).
On a semi-related note, did anyone else notice that Walthers is no longer importing any Roco cars or locos?
Minitanks are it.

Uh, not quite.

The US dollar has been in a slump for months against other currencies (including the Dinar!), leading to hard times for exporters to the USA.

Meanwhile, the Canadian dollar is trading this morning at $USD 0.77 - little more than a cent below the ten-year high of around $USD .78 that it set a few weeks ago.

Enough financial analysis...[:)]
Roco seem to have shelved their plans to release an AC4400 and a GP40-2, probably due as much to their chosen importer (E-R) and its lack of brand recognition in the premium market that Roco aims for, as to currency markets. The GP40-2's demise may also have to do with competitor's releases of GP50's, GP60's, and GP38-2's, which would suggest to me that said competitor will probably do a GP40-2.
