Hello.
I am new to this site and was happy to find it and wanted to say hello to all.
I have been very interested in model railroading for over 33 years but to this day I have never built a layout. I have collected quite a few nice HO locomotives and cars over the years and one day I would like to post what I own and maybe someone here can tell me a little about them. Most are 30-40 years old and never have been run and are still in their boxes. I have subscribed to Model Railroader magazine since the early 70s and have enjoyed reading every issue over and over.
Great site and maybe soon I too can start to enjoy creating a layout.
Take care, Mark

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
Yup, I will be going to start my first layout very soon.
In regards to runnung down to my local hobby store, I live in a very small rural mountain town and we don't have a hobby store. No problem as most of my purchases are online so there will be no problem locating all the needed items.
I am even thinking about laying some track on my land (3.0 acres) and starting a steam line. Maybe I better start a little smaller right!
Again, thanks for the welcome and what a great site!

That's great news! Welcome to the world of model railroading! So, how big will your layout be? I've been intrested in trains all my life but are just now considering a layout. I think I'll go with 5x8.

Welcome! I just got started in the hobby this year. I'm building a small 2 X 4 diorama/layout (N-scale) to see how much I like all the various aspects involved in building a layout. My layout will include several structures (I'm working on a rolling mill right now), a small stream with a truss bridge crossing it, and several turnouts leading to short spurs. This way, I get to try a little bit of everything before too long---might be a good way for you to "test the waters" also. Have fun!!

Welcome Mark,
I started modling about 2 yrs ago and haven't stoped yet. Well, maybe a day or two here and there.
I purchased the Woodland Scenics Grand Valley layout because I thought it would be a good learning
tool, and it was. It was a little on the expensive side but i learned alot about the hobby.I have since
started my own layout and find it more rewarding than the "in the box" layout. So if you have about
$600 just lying around, try the WS Grand Valley. If not, start with a small layout of you own design.
You can always expand or even start over. Trust me, every time you think you are going in the
direction that you planned, you will come up with more and more ideas. Thats what makes it
so enjoyable. So just dive in head first and have some fun. Dave
P.S. Your screen name would suggest that you model z scale. Do you or is their another meaning
behind your screen name. Dave

Welcome!
You have now gone from being an armchair model railroader to being a mouse click model railroader.

Welcome Aboard, Mark! I joined this forum just yesterday and it's been helpful to me in a big way. Lot of folks visit the site who have a wealth of knowledge to share. I began a small layout a few months ago and it's a load of fun, just watching the trains run--with no scenery or buildings in place, even! Consider freelancing your own pike--it can be just as interesting to let your imagination run wild with the endless choices stemming from creating something that didn't actually exist in the real world. Best wishes to you and enjoy. We've got the best hobby in the world. All in agreement , blow your whistles!
Andrew
