Howdy ...

What's this ? Fried chicken for dinner!  .. Yum. Thanks, Steven.

I'm trying to catch up with lots of stuff after being gone so much of the past two months. I do not have much model railroad progress to report.

I received my Walthers monthly flyer. I'm excited to see they will relase an authentic CB&Q E9. I already have several Burlington E units, but that one looks tempting.

Hello Railfans!

Another hot day here folks. Outside that is. New a/c still cranking out the anti-hots as advertised. Never the less, Flo.... wink wink! (loosely translated thats one Pepsi (42f) in a frozen Pilsner glass, stirred not shaken - no ice). Thank ya dollin!

In General - Nothing new to report here, Im still not a millionaire.

Flo - dont look at me like that, I can pay for the pepsi!

RR Front - Nothing grand to report here either. Have caught a few train movements here and there in passing. Never in a position to stop what im doing, take a moment to snapshot some kodak moments.

I did get the bajeebers scared outta me the other night. I was passing under a RR bridge in which a CSX intermodal was painfully slow in crossing. Minding my own driving business when he let out a nice grand blast right as i passed under. About set off my airbag! Thankfully she wasnt with me. Needless to say, Red, White, and Blue werent the only stripes Oops - Sign in my Patriotic underwear.

Now, Im a Railfan. I know a train horn inside and out, here and there or anywhere. Never bothered me, i expect to hear one. But I never thought you could sneak up on me with one. Especially when i already know your there. I cant wait to return the favor Devil Whistling Laugh.

Engineer 1 - Railfan 0

Been spending alot of time pondering that coupler project i was doing. Id love to have a layout to run a dozen or so working cars on and try it out. Heck, id love to just have a layout to run on period!

Been wanting to put a train horn on my truck Idea. We all know that project works too! A Railfan with a truck possesing a train horn on the streets of America. Yeah, this should go over about as good as a Led Zepplin. Mischief

Have a nice evening folks!

Thank you for the chicken, Steven!

I spent most of the weekend out at Dad's helping to throw out a lot of stuff.  He's still there, just wanted the place cleaned out because he could see it needed work once he had cataract surgery.  The weird thing about all of this was, Friday night I had a dream about a girl I went to school with.  Saturday, Dad asked if I remembered a girl by that name.  Yeah, why?  He rented the dumpster from him.  We never dated or anything, and my wife most likely would object if I tried to start now, so it was very odd for me to have a dream about her, much less her being the person Dad called.

Absolutely nothing new in modeling here.  I saw an NS Operation Lifesaver engine sitting in Conklin on our way back from an Independence Day cookout at my wife's uncle's house.

YGW, Galaxy posted last month that he's got stuff going on so he won't be posting again for awhile.  Hopefully he's doing well.

Good evening gang! Fried Chicken? Yum!! SWMBO was just commenting the other day that I'm starting to look a little "extra crispy", with my summer tan and white hair! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLrSkZPzQIs  Please pass the cole slaw too!

2 months ago the layout came down, and the overhaul on the house is not complete enough to totally rebuild, but a true modeler is never down for long. This weekend I built a section of benchwork/storage area, and tossed my old club modules on top so I can at least run back and forth until the HVAC guys are done with the rest of the basement!

By September, the work we contracted for will be done, and I can put the other 200 1x4s in the garage to good use!

Good evening from Indianapolis.  Managed to arrive at the NMRA convention to pick up  my registration about one hour before the silent auction closed.  Bid on a couple F units and a 120 ft manual turn table.  Was able to make the minimum bid as no one else had bid on these items.  All new items in the box.  As I left at almost the close, should score on all three items.  Cheaper than flee bay or other sources and no shipping charges.

Plan on a full day of clinics tomorrow and then the National Train Show Friday morning and more clinics Friday afternoon.

The weather has turned very hot and humid in the mid-Ohio River Valley before leaving this morning.  Yesterday I worked outside all day in it felt like I was working in a steam room.  Straightened out by garage and then retrieved a two stage snow blower and a bunch of Hardie siding from daughter's garage as she has sold the garage to the neighbor whose property abuts the garage. It was an old non-descript carriage barn.  I think the buyer will tear it down as it is not worth fixing up and has little historic value or charm.

Time for some z'sss.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer please.

Rick Guess I am lucky when it comes to slow days. If it is slow I can sit on my caboose and read.  Sad thing in the last 153 weeks I have worked for this company I have read 123 books. But it keeps me off my feet, and with my foot problems that is a blessing. But reading does not pay the bills.

YGW And you where a MOPAR MAN? Whistling OK, I am kidding. While I am not sure how many Hurst 300 where made, they made more of the 1969 Dodge Daytona Chargers and they only made 503 of them.

Yard Wars Seems we may have a break in the rain Thursday so I will be back at it. It will be hot and with the running I have to do I am not sure what I will get done. Seems the fence install is still 4 weeks out. While I am fine with that with having to rmove the old fence it still kind of stinks I have to make the credit card payments.

 Later, Ken

If the pie offer extends to us regular vistors, I wouldn't mind a piece of coconut cream. Thanks.

FRRYKid - I have found that most sellers only have a couple of the items that I model and I have to search eleswhere

A lot of times it depends, as you said, what your looking for. A lot of the time the more the seller lists, the more likely you will find everything you're looking for. There are times, however, that I do have to order from an actual hobby shop because it is not on eBay. It is just an additional resource.

I am to the point where most of the stuff I look for on eBay are the occasional engine (not that I really need any more - 25 would seem to be enough. Although I am entranced with the idea of one more engine - an SD-45 in Northern Pacific paint.) or parts for keeping cars and those engines in running order. I have ended finding a little bit of everything - handrail kits (GP20s), dynamic brake hatch (GP20s again - the odd item I found quite by accident), engine shells, model paints, styrene, structures, track, scenery materials, etc. Like I said, I don't have an LHS.

There have been times where I have set up a search where it notifies me when items that fit the search terms are listed. Currently I have on bid a set of Atlas S series handrails that fit the 3 S-4s that I have (have been a little hard to find). I also have a set of NP refeers from the Athearn SE series that I got because of the search feature.

Good morning everyone,

Flo, I'd love cheesy scrambled eggs, and a cinnamon bun. Plenty of butter and salt on both please :-) and about a gallon of fair trade coffee with some local cream from happy cows.

Hope everyone had a good 4th of July, and National Fried Chicken Day. I love that the two are so close together.

I checked out a 1br apartment yesterday, as I'm on the hunt for a place just for myself and one of the cats who thinks well of me. Okay place, but I want to see what all is out there. We live at home currently, and the family is great, and in no hurry for us to move out. I'd just like to try living by myself.

On the MR front, I only have to do a coal load, plus a few final details for my 1361 model and I shall declare it done. The paint, decals, reassembly, and putting the sound decoder back in I accomplished yesterday. I'm going to work on those final details after work this afternoon. My hope is to have it finished by the time BLI's P70 coaches are finally released, which according to BLI shall be this month. *fingers crossed*

Good Afternoon!

Pie? Did someone mention pie? Reminds me of the virtual pie fights we had when Barry was still with us, may he rest in peace!

Alvie - good look on the house hunt!

Happiness is receiving a few pieces of trusted old Marklin track and having your old loco circle it! That´s exactly what I did, when a full circle and some pieces of straight track showed up in today´s mail! I cleaned the track a little, put my loco on the rails, applied power and, after a little sputtering, it ran perfectly, happily circeling the track!

This is how it all got started 53 years ago!

I enjoyed it very much!

Good morning ..

It has been storming a lot here in KY in recent days. Yesterday, thunder storms began in early afternoon and continued until about 6:00 am this morning.

Ulrich .... I recall the pie fights. Barry was a lot of fun. He and I used to razz each other all of the time. I remember razzing him about his huge portions, and I used the phrase "Barry-sized" which quickly caught on.  I sometimes wonder if the Diner should be called Jeffrey and Barry's Trackside Diner, but then I ask myself what happens if we lose another Diner (I hope not!). We can't do too much.

Ken ... I like your photo of the Chargers .

As I have said, our trips this year to Michigan have been mostly to help one of our daughters who has troubles with our grandchildren's father. The man is an addict and an alcoholic who has done very bad things. There have been several court dates and there will be another later this month. Things are not going well unfortunately. The court is mandated to decide in the best interest of the children especially their safety. However, their mindset is to compromise between two parents who do not agree. They believe lies of an addict while compromising. I feel it is wrong to compromise on safety of children. The result puts our grandchildren at risk, and we are very unhappy. Seeing how this impacts on our daughter and our two very young grandchildren is heartbreaking.

I need a lot of sanity breaks working on the layout, but there are so many other things needing attention. So I am not doing as much model railroading as I want to do. I suppose I should not have told you all about this matter, but you are my friends.

Have a nice day, everybody.

Garry - I had the same thought when we got teh news about Barry´s passing. Like Jeff, he was a key contributor not only to the thread and served the community as amoderator for many years.

I think we should honor him - one way or the other! Any ideas how we could accomplish that?

Angel for your daughter and grandchildren!

Just wandering by and smelled that greasy, spicey aroama of finger lickin chicken...Oh yeah Dinner can I grab a few drumsticks?

Looks like a bit of stormy weather coming over us tonight and continuing over the weekend...Our crew has been knocked of for this week which puts us a day behind schedule so we will wrap it up on Monday and then its onto the next project...details are vague at this moment.

Looking to purchase some cheap pigion hole shelving from the local hardware to modify for a base to sit the layout on in the shed...this will give me somewhere to store all the boxes up off the ground. I need to frame and add some feet that I can adjust...I think screwing 2x1 timbers to the bottom and drilling the lumber to house some captured nuts and cuphead bolts for the adjustment factor should do the job as the floor is not very even...I will throw some pics up once its started...

Well that chicken was awesome...better knick off home to get my actual dinner...don't tell the missus I was in here tonight or I'm cactus.

Oooroo critters

Cheers...

We've had a few days of "too hot" here.  I've been hiding in the air conditioning.  Tuesday was hockey, so I got my "winter fix" at the rink.  Yesterday I went to the gym (AC) and the bar to hear some music (AC), but while parked at the bar my car got dinged.  It's driveable, no one was hurt and it looks like her insurance picks up the whole bill with no deductable, and the'll pay for a loaner for me while my car is in the shop.

It's only 80 today, so I'm going to take my mountain bike out on the rail-trail, which is shaded, and put in some miles as soon as my lunch digests a bit.  I'm feeling tired and listless right now, but I know the bike ride is the cure.

Good Evening Folks!

The day is slowly coming to an end, and I can say it´s been one of the few days I have really enjoyed. The weather was OK, and running my old Marklin loco gave me fond memories of my childhood days with my first train set.

I even made a short video from it:

I also spent some time going over various threads here, making me come to a rather unpopular conclusion. If it weren´t for the folks in this thread and the occasional WPF and "Show Me..." postings, I´d consider visiting this forum a total waste of time. The majority of contributions answer questions asked only because the OPs are too lazy to do a proper search, or the never ending "The end of ... )fill in what you like) is dead" - threads. There is hardly an interesting layout building thread, or scratchbuilding thread.

I sometimes pity the folks who spend a lot of time helping and explaining, without a word of thanks in return.

I don´t blame our host for this (how could I?). Finally, a forum is what the contributing people make out of it. Attempts by a few to beef the contents up by starting a blog-like thread about their layout build usually stopped after a short while only - for lack of feedback.

I am also visiting a number of other model railroading forums, most of which suffer a similar fate, but some a lot more lively. Part of this is certainly due to a different, more pointed structure.

Oh, well - didn´t mean to rant, but seeing the same old stuff over and over again gets a bit boring, doesn´t it?

TTFN & CU tomorrow!

I had a busy day yesterday, I found a 2 month old lab puppy. Later I'll show a picture after I upload it.

Since I left I promised a picture of the adorable puppy.

sara

I found her next to the park, balled covered in a tree pot between the walls. I finished my walk with Murray and walk back with ice water, soft dog food and a leash.

She wasn't hungry, she drank a bit, but too cold for her. I tried to walk her but she didn't want to. So I decided to pick her up and carried her back home.

I give her a bath in a kiddie pool which she really loved. I found a family of ticks around her neck, so I plucked out.

I named her Sarah. I was thinking of Sarah Hyland at the time. I thought of naming her Lindsey after a few hours sending to the dog pound.

I was having second feelings about keeping it, or give her away to say better family. I would kept her but I don't money or a job to support her. At least I had a dog for half a day. But I do have some good memories.

I would say more but I don't want to brag about a stray dog.

 Afternoon Dinners

 Flo Beer please.

Just was not my day today! Did 2 hours worth of running and after I was home I was beat.

Felt like doing a little model railroading when I got home! Big Smile As some of you know from the main page I had a turnout motor that stopped working. Stopped by K-10 Model Trains and bought a new switch motor and yet another covered hopper? (used but PK wheels and Kadee Couplers for $5.95)

What should have taken 5 minutes turned in to a half hour project! Got 4 of the 5 screws off the old switch motor, but the 5th one! Bang Head Well it is allwise the last one right! Whistling I did not test for power first like a idiot! Got the new motor installed, still dead as a door nail! Bang Head

YGW I have sent you a PM.

Gary The red Charger is mine, the blue one is Allens 68 Charger I did.

Hey Guys,

Been busy trying to figure out what to bring to the Cube Show in Santa Ana this sunday (show runs from 10am-5pm) the layout size is 16X22 feet.

We won't need many cars, so I'm packing light.

I found two train websites today on google, (feel free to check them out)

1. Streamlinermemories.info/

2. Streamliner Memories Rail Memorabilia of Gary Garth McCann

(author of the man who asked to be killed) (says so in the upper right corner of the website).

I think that quote may be a joke, but i'm not too sure.

Both websites have lots of interesting stuff about Streamliners from the 1920's-1970's.

Good Evening Diners,

Well it has been some time since I lasted visited this establishment but have looked in from time to time.  Nice to see some new faces too.

We, as in spousal unit and myself, have been very busy since May getting ready for guests who stayed with us on their return trip to Victoria. We had a great visit but it required a tremendous amount of prep work, cleaning, painting, planting, shopping. It seemed like we would never be ready for them but it all turned out great.  They said that in the next life they want to come back as Robbie ( our Westie) so I guess they think he is well looked after.

I have actually been doing a little work on the RR, finishing the site for the install of the Dairy Queen. I used some black styrene for the parking lot for a change which seems to have worked well. I had to cut into a 'hill' in order to make room for it and used some Chooch retaining wall material which looks quite good. Just have to do some pavement painting and touch up the ground cover around the construction site to finish.

We are off to do a little birding tomorrow as it is supposed to be sunny, a nice change from all the rain we have been getting lately.

Have a Good Night,

CN Charlie

Good Afternoon, Folks!

Well, the place looks rather empty, but I do spot the twins sitting in one of the backbooths. Never mind getting up - I help myself to some coffee and cookies.

It´s another wet day, which makes me feel bad, physically and mentally. I´ve got a fuzzy feeling in my head - probably my BP having gone down into the basement and not yet found the way up again.

With no realy MRRing possible these days, I did some virtual stuff - detailing the freight cars and adding a couple of new ones - a gondola and a tank car. Gives the 3D picture a more populated look.

This plan will eventually be published in the SCARM track plan library!

We are invited to a BBQ tomorrow, weather permitting. It´ll be nice to "eat out" for a change, although the good food will be supplied by us Dinner

I´ll be staying at the RC for a while, waiting for someone to join me!

YGW - under other circumstances I´d say it´s a great idea, but my health has condemned me to armchairing and a little dreaming & planning, but no building. I am pondering to sell all my model trains with the exception of that old Marklin stuff - just to have something simple and robust to play with, but not a permanent layout.

Good morning, Diners !

I'll have a Canadian Tim Horton's coffee with ann original Tim Horton's doughnut please.

Angelob6660 .... I like the puppy. If you don't keep him, I bet he will be placed in a nice home.

CN Charlie .... We have numerous birds here to watch also. ...

Speaking of birds. ... I heard this story from the man at the funeral home / cemetary as my sisters and I were making arrangements for our mother's funeral a few weeks ago in Alabama. He said they offer releasing white doves as part of a memorial. The last dove to be released represents the soul of the deceased person going to Heaven. In one funeral, they relased the final dove, and immediately a hawk swooped in, killed the dove, and flew away with it. White feathers swirled around in the air. .... We did not have doves released for Mom's funeral.

Have a nice Friday.

Stuff like this:

And that's just the start of the HO scale stuff... go take a look!

(Also, I sent the last of 10 feature articles for Great Model Railroads 2017 off for proofreading yesterday, on deadline! Woohoo!)

LUNCH TIME !

Hey all. Its Friday ! Its half through thE end of the week day ! It is the last leg of a LOOOONNNNGGGEEEESSSSTTTT 4 day week ever ! Ogeez it has been a tough one. HOT, Bad attitudes cause of the heat, short tempers, lots of arguing....Sheez glad this one is almost in thE history books !

Yesterday My Hispanic trim carpenter ( very good trim carpenter ) came blasting into my office and he was livid about a delivery guy who was putting stuff where he had to work ! Speaking in both english and spanish ! Fortunately I know just enough to be able to understand. After he left my daughter who came to w**k with me yesterday looked at me with this puzzled look and said " Dad what did he say" ??? Laugh I have been working with these guys so long I find it easy to understand most of them. To the untrained ear I guess it is hard to understand

Afternoon folks,

Chloe, just another refill of my Seneca Lake Blend organic Fair Traded Dark Roast Coffee please.

Been busy around here, it has...  So what else is new?  Yesterday I finally bit the bullet and spent some money from the Tesla Fund for a new laptop...  Huh?  Of course I bought a Mac....  You know me. I don't use Wind-doz!  Got a "Yesterday" Macbook with OS Loud Sousa March....  er, El Capitan.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1vPmC_CQQY That is one of my favorite Sousa Marches, BTW.  I am in the process of cloning my iMac settings and stuff onto the MacBook right now.  I will have to get an app I think to run several of the Programs as they don't run on the new OS with it.  This will be in part a trial run to make sure things will work when I update the iMac to El Capitan later this fall.

Got to Chauffeur my granddaughter #2 (with Mom and sister) over to her Karate class last night.  Wish I had been there last week as she was presented her Yellow Belt!  Then gave granddaughter #1 a guitar lesson after we got back to their house.  She has finally decided she wants to learn how to play it!!!

Phone just rang and the driveway sealer place will be here on Monday to do the driveway!!!  Yes!

Have a good one!

Afternoon Diners,

Thanks for the nice words everybody. I did enjoy having Sarah around.

I noticed yesterday that Trainworx is making the Mack III Flexi-Van flatcars to go with the trailers that are coming out later this year. Now I can have flatcars to go with the trailers.

I have see what else is coming out for this or next year.
