The GE U-Boats (inspite of their initial flaws) are what started the ball rolling for GE in the "Horsepower Wars" with EMD in the late 60s early 70s.[sigh][sigh] BigBoy 4015, With all due respect, the Atlas GE Dash 7 model is decently detailed and incredibly smooth running! Much better than the Athearn U-boats many of us own that want 4 axle U33 or U36 models!

Well what about this problem I am having with the M1 I just bought. The engine sits quiet for the first 4 volts then at 5 volts the sound starts and then at 10 volts the engine starts to move. Then at 15 volts it stops and sounds like an alarm on a car that is being broken into. I tried to double head with another, non BLI engine but it started to run at 4 volts and that made it impossible to work together. Is this right? The whistle works but the bell will not ring Trainfreak
QUOTE: Originally posted by AntonioFP45 TrainGuy1700, You likely paid hard earned money for your locomotive! With the electronic related problems that you're describing, I would not wait. I would demand that if this unit cannot be repaired within a short time that it be exchanged for another one. I would suggest that you e-mail this thread to BLI. One modeler did this recently on another thread and received a response as he included his e-mail address. I like the BLI's myself but as I mentioned on another thread, Broadway has been having problems with a small but significant percentage of the locomotives that they've been releasing. The majority of them being steamers though a vendor I spoke to reported that some of the GG1s had mechanical problems. He indicated that BLI made an effort to satisfy customers with problems. Hopefully Broadway Limited managers are working aggresively to resolve some of these issues. I'm just "assuming" but I imagine that it must be somtimes difficult for management since the units are built in China, so there's probably plenty of phoning, e-mailing, and faxing going on.
QUOTE: Originally posted by AntonioFP45 BigBoy4015, [;)] Thanks for the correction regarding where BLI's are manufactured. By the way, I did not even mention DCC. The majority of the problems with the GG1s were mechanical as were the problems with the BLI steamers. Though, some of the steamers did have DCC related problems. As I indicated the percentage is "low" but it's stll significant. It's a known fact that all of the model railroad manufacturers encounter problems with products from time to time. They're still good products and as the manufacturer's listen and read customer and vendor input, they'll make improvements accordingly. Trainguy's problem may be an easy one to solve, but my point is that he should get it checked out.......if there is a problem that can't be fixed........exchange it. Peace out! [:D][8)][8D]
