So it it working now? I always solder those clips, they are fairly useless and to easy to get part of the insulation stuck in which means the stripped end of the wire ends up not making good contact.
Hopefully you did not apply DC to the motor leads while they were still attached to the decoder - that's a pretty much sure fire way to blow the motor drive ont he decoder, they do not like voltage in on the outputs. Applying DC tot he track pickups is fine, since they are intended to work on both DC and DCC.

Thanks, Randy.
Don't know about that though.
1st.....the take apart info for anyone searching this model of P2K is that there are two screws under each of the speakers. Both speakers and retainers have to be removed to access these to release the weight from the frame.
2nd ...the electronics. I think the lack of movement was because of the model having one of those stupid "clip" over wire-end through circuit board tab connection systems. I've had troble with these before. I removed the clips and soldered the track pickups, motor leads etc. together and the loco works fine. I don't mind having to touch the solder iron to these a bit if I ever need to get it apart again...a little bit of extra time is a good tradeoff to get rid of the poor factory connections.
The reason I don't think the disconnect mode was in play was that the motor would not work even with direct DC applied to the wheels or wheel pickups (it did work when applied to motor leads). And the sound with these works in DC regardless.
Thanks again for all the responses.
That sounds exactly like "disconnect' mode. Sounds all work, but it won't move. I seriously doubt the motor would just quit suddenly like that. Really. Try the F6 sequence to brign it back.
Thanks for the answers so far, gentlemen.
No, I don't think F-anything will do the trick. It doesn't seem to be in shut down mode, as I noted.....applying the throttle revs up the loco just fine....to full speed......but only the audio. The running gear is stuck somehow....
[I could have mentioned it will not move under DC power either...I have many of these P2k with sound and I know the shutdown, start up is not a factor here]
Well, I will have it apart one way or another. I had taken out those 4 screws and just wanted to avoid taking off more than was necessary since the weight still seemed attached....but I will give it more of a tap, tug etc.
Thanks again.
As David is suggesting try double clicking F6 to bring it out of shut down mode.
Joe
There are four screws that hold the weight to the frame. Two at each end. They are brass in color and in a resesed holes and will have some type of loc tight materal on them, red in color.
Imagine! After running it well for a half hour or so last week, this baby just stopped when backing up. Reset to factory settings etc......,no luck.
Quantum sound all working fine.....audio revs right up. Wheels sit idle.
Doesn 't seem there is a problem in the truck gears or wheels so I'd like to tear this down to check the motor, brushes, contacts etc.
I have only ever taken apart a non-DCC P2K E8 ( to put my decoder in) and it must have been some time ago because the procedure to get to the motor escapes me. Rather than taking every screw out, does anyone have a tip or link to a video showing how to get the big weight off the frame etc. etc.?
Thanks.
