To be honest, you'd be spending about 95 percent of the money you would spend to go DCC - and not getting the train control advantages; a bad trade-off in my opinion. Nearly ANY DCC system can issue the sound trigger commands to any other sound decoder. Hell, you can even run DC locomotives on a DCC equipped layout - just do so sparingly, and monitor it for overheating/damage.
If you have your heart set on it, I'd imagine it works alright - it's basically a stripped DCC system in of itself, from what I've heard and read - it uses DC power for locomotive direction and control, and sends the DCC commands for the sound by pressing the buttons.

No such thing as a MRC sound controller.
There is a MRC DCC system for controlling the layout.
and MRC sound decoders. There are also, non sound decoders.
Which are you interested in?

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
Has anyone had experience with the MRC sound controller for a DC layout?
