I have an HO scale Stewart U25b that has the KATO DC drive. I was running it yesterday when all of a sudden I got a short circuit. I took the shell off and disconnected the power from the trucks and the short went away. This leads me to believe that the short is coming from the motor itself. What would cause this and is it burned out? Has anyone else had this problem with their Stewart/KATO? Thanks
Did you disconnect both trucks at once or one at a time and try it? If you did both at once you may have a short in "1" of the trucks, otherwise it's possible that the motor has shorted out, but not likely.

I tried disconnecting both trucks at the same time. I have deemed it to be a bad motor. I hard wired it to a test track without the trucks or driveline and it ran real slow then it stopped shorting out the pack. the unit is now a dummy, problem solved. Thanks for the info.
Or you could just get a new motor from Kato and still have a powered engine.
