I think he was asking more about the decoder side of it, but you probably answered his next question. Smile

Rich,

As far as your first inquiry, this question gets asked quite frequently here.  Below are links to recent threads that have been posted here that should address your questions, more or less:

How I chose my DCC system

My DCC Decison

what dcc system are you using

Most Popular DCC System

New DCC Choice

NCE PowerCab 2 Amp DCC Starter Set

Bottom line: Every DCC has its pluses and minuses.  You should first determine what your current and future layout needs and requirements are...THEN find the DCC system that will best fulfill them.  And, if you have the opportunity to use one hands on, that's another plus.

First, you don't have to shout in text.  Just normal type is better for our old eyes.

The model and type of decoder will depend on the brand and model of loco you are upgrading. NCE, Digitrax, Soundtraxx, and QSI all have an excellent line of decoders. I'm sure there are others but those are the one's I've worked with.

When you're ready to start switching list the loco's as you go and You'll get some feedback.

I am contemplating DCC...Today I hae a very small layout but a new house we have bid on has a very larger basement. Without a lot of reasearch, I notice Digitrax and NCE to be the most prevalent. Curios as to readers choices of either sytem and why.  Also, I have a lot of NEWER equipment that I will add decoders to. While TSNUNAMI sound decoders seem to be the best for sound, I really would not want to equip every engine with sound. So what s a good choice for a standard decoder and what if any features should I look for ? Thanks ! Rich P
