 The DS 64 does not control crossing gates or flashing lights.  For that, you need a Logic Rail Technologies Grade Crossing Pro or similar circuit board.  The DS 64 only controls switch machines.

You can purchase a Grade Crossing Pro from http://www.logicrailtech.com 

That's not true.  The DS-64 can be configured to flash the lights and to use a Tortoise to control a gate.  You do need detection to tell it when unless you want to control them from the throttle.

i need help with the wiring of a tortoise slow motion switch machine to the ds64 as a crossing gate and also the proper way to wire the flashing lights. ive been reading the digitrax directions numerous times and i cant make sense of it.
