Thanks, Overmod, that's it! I knew that Talmage made an "ashpan cleaning system", but this explains it all. Yes

Does anyone have an idea of what the "Talmage System" could have been?

Here is a reference to the "Talmage System of Caring for Locomotive Boilers" that I think goes a long way toward answering your question.

Talmage Manufacturing Co. Steam Loco "System"

Hello, Crew! I was recently asked what the "Talmage System" was on steam locos, particularly on an Erie 0-8-8-0. I do know the Talmage Manufacturing Co. of Cleveland made fittings such as blow off valve, low water alarms, hand brakes, ashpans, etc. according to the June 1928 issue of Railway Age. Does anyone have an idea of what the "Talmage System" could have been?

Thanks!

Russ
