When did ALCo introduce RS3?

I believe they could although it wasn't common practice to mix them into the 60's. As I recall the only engines that couldn't mu were those without the cable connections, Baldwins because they used a funky control system that was different from everybody else and those that had pneumatic control. Many years ago Trains did a couple of articles on what was involved in MUing units. It was titled something along the lines of "What do all these cables do?". It would have been sometime between 1968 and 1982.

Was it possible to mu RS3; RS2 with GP7/9?

Is the RS3 the one the Russians stripped down and copied or was it an RS2 or 1? They are still running over there in any event.

Alco's RS-3 originated in May 1950 as a replacment for the RS-2. Late RS-2s and all RS-3s had 1600 horsepower, all other RS-2s had 1500 HP. Known to ALCO as the E-1662, the engine was powered with a 12 cylinder 244 engine. In August 1956, the RS-3 was discontinued, only after 1370 RS-3s were built in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
