When did ALCo introduce RS3?

Alco's RS-3 originated in May 1950 as a replacment for the RS-2. Late RS-2s and all RS-3s had 1600 horsepower, all other RS-2s had 1500 HP. Known to ALCO as the E-1662, the engine was powered with a 12 cylinder 244 engine. In August 1956, the RS-3 was discontinued, only after 1370 RS-3s were built in the US, Canada, and Mexico. <br /> <br /><font size="1">info from <i>Diesel Locomotives, the First 50 Years</i></font id="size1">
