I am trying to decide which DCC system to go with. I see the digitrax zephyer and Bachmann EZ command will run A dc train. Does the CVP easy DCC do this Thanks DAN.[8]

Dan,

Joe Fugate would be a good person to talk to about that. He runs EasyDCC on his Siskyou RR. He should listed under the users "Members". Here's his profile link: http://www.trains.com/community/forum/member-profile.asp?id=44812. You can e-mail him directly.

Yes, you can run ONE non decoder equiped locomotive on EasyDCC. You must operate it from the command station. It will be on address "00" (or 0000 if you prefer, same difference). The walkaround throttles will not acquire this address, hence operation from the command station is the only choice.
Since DCC places a square wave on the rails, running non decoder equiped locomotives is NOT A GOOD IDEA regardless of the system. It is rough on the DC motor, makes a lot of noise during operation and does not run smoothly. But, to answer your question, EasyDCC will allow you to do so. Good luck in your quest for the right DCC system for you and your layout!

As Ed says, yes CVP will run a loco in DC mode. I would not personally choose this feature as my reason to go or not to go with a system. Since as Ed points out, DC operation mode in any DCC system is marginal at best. I have CVP Easy DCC and it really is easy to use and I find the wireless to be simple to operate and very reliable.

Right on, Guy! I have the wireless and the tethered walkarounds and they are both outstanding. Now if my modeling were only that good.........

Went to your link from your profile and viewed the pictures of your former layout. Nice work, Guy! Nice work!

Hey!
I don't know if it does. But, to me, on my layout, I'll be using the same system! I also have issues of MR that shows how to put in the wiring and etc.

What about wireless do you want to know? Most of the better DCC systems offer a wireless option. The walk around throttles use RF (radio for the uninitiated!)to communicate with a receiver which IS tethered to the command station. You acquire the train you wi***o operate with the wireless throttle (process varies by brand of DCC system, for example with EasyDCC you dial up the locmotive on the walkaround unit and go. With Digitrax you have to plug the unit in to acquire the locomotive)and then operate it without the need to plug and unplug as you move around the layout. Without wasting space of technical stuff, that is how wireless works! I'm sure many on this forum can supply a lot of additional information for you. Good luck! And...ENJOY!!!

All of the DCC systems should be able to run one non-decoder equiped or analog locomotive. personally I use the zephyr because it can be expanded into so many configurations. Loconet is great because I can hook up my computer to diagnose problems and run the entire layout. Plus digitrax is a very active product line. When I deciding which system I wanted to buy i made a list of what I wanted and weighed that against whether the company seemed to have a good base. My biggest worry was that the company I chose would go belly up. Good luck in your decision. As long as it is DCC you'll do fine.
