4664challenger,

What make of Mogul is it? A Bachmann? The smoke generators are pretty simple. Check that the tube in the center of the smoke generator is centered in the generator and vertical. It should almost touch the bottom of the fluid reservoir. The wires should touch the two halves of the frame. Use a good smoke liquid. That's about it. A little more detail from you would help the forum's members help you.

That's typical of the Bachmann mogul smoke generator because it is nothing but a heating element, so the faster you run the engine, the hotter the smoke fluid gets, until it starts splattering out because it is too hot. Forget about the smoke and run it without fluid. Smoke fluid just leaves an oily film on everything, anyway, and results in more need for track cleaning.

Live smokes only good on the larger scales and outdoors. I would just open thast bad boy up and snip the wires to the smoke generator, no need for it.
