I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
If you are going to use a turnout motor, the springs have no useful function.

The MEC turnouts have a small off-center spring on the throwbar, to hold the point rail against the stock rail, similar to Peco(?). They'll be controlled with Tortoise switch motors with a heavier piano wire (.039" vs .025" stock). So my question is - should I remove the off-center spring, or no? They appear difficult to remove once the turnout is installed.
