Thanks for the suggestions. I've seen that web site before. Unfortunately I've already laid the track and I don't want to rip it out just for a short section of girder rail. I think what I'll try is a piece of Code 70 rail laid on its side up against the Code 83 already in place. Either that or just forget about it!
Proto 87 makes girder rail sections and transition joiners. They are designed for traction, but work with standard HO engines and rolling stock as well.
I built part of my carfloat terminal with this.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
I had seen an article where the modeler had placed the head of a rail nested into the web of the running rail and soldered the two together. This would be fine for straight track, I suppose a curve would have to be formed first then soldered if you need a curved piece.
