Prototype scale track
Posted by BerkshireSteam on Monday, May 11, 2009 9:53 AM

Well before I got too deep into replanning my layout for HO scale, up from N, I tried to remember about scale track. All I could remember was teh code deciphering. What would be the prototypical rail weight of code 100 (8.7"), 83 (7.2"), 70 (6.1"), 55 (4.8").

Saweeeeeeeeet. That was more helpful than you probably thought it was. It also made things a little more interesting for me. Now I have to decide on which rail to use where. I was contemplating code 40 rail untill I noticed that code 40 rail is equal to prototypical 40# rail. I thought that was kind of ironic in a neat way untill I realized 40# rail probably counldn't hold much more weight hand speader...maaaaaaaybe a caboose, long as it's empty.
