Did you do anything else to the turnout to make the electrical conductivity better or did you use the caboose hobbies ground throw to hold the points up against the stock rail and conduct electricity that way?  I have not been too successful using that technique in the past.

Looking at this turnout closely, I am even more confused.  It has three frogs and some plastic molded gaps in the rails I am not sure how to wire this thing!   -  Nevin

I am running Digitrax DCC and using a 3-way switch at the beginning of a staging yard. The only problem that I have is power routing through the switch points. I am using Caboose Hobbies ground throws and they seem to hold the points in position. One could use additional feeders and gaps on the exit side of the switch and probably have no problems. My only concern is sometimes I might want to move a loco on a track that is not powered through the points.

It is code 70 nickel silver and look to be about 3-8 years old. It looks slightly used. - Nevin

Old, as in "used?"  Old, as in "brass?"

I have 3 old, used, brass Shinoharas from my teen layout days in the 1960's.  I decided to try them, since they were "only" yard tracks.  I discovered right away that I needed to provide additional power routing, so I wired up some relays (which I had around anyway) and got the whole thing to work electrically.  However, I had a lot of trouble keeping the points closed well.  I saw a great price on Peco 3-ways, and replaced the old Shinoharas.  I was instantly much happier.  The Pecos are shorter, too, so they'll save more space.

Preparing a Shinohara HO 3-way turnout for DCC

I don't have lot of room and a 3-way turnout would be a big advantage. I picked up an old code 70 Shinohara HO 3 way #6 turnout on Ebay. It looks like there could be some issues. I would like to know if anyone has worked with these turnouts and what you did to prepare it for DCC and any other recommendations for improved conductivity of the points? Did you isolate the frogs? The rest of my turnouts will be ME #6. - Nevin
