Here is the starting point for the 2nd year of the BAH RR:
This post is continued from: http://www.trains.com/trccs/forums/897748/ShowPost.aspx
Here is the first yearly update:
I have completely reworked my web site (still under construction though) and provide a lot of detailed pictures and the requested progress pictures. The web site is non-commercial with no ads or pop ups; however is is very photo intensive and may be slow for those of you on dial up (please let me know what you find out and how you like/dislike it). Look in the signature block for the WWW button.
I will also duplicate this post in a new posting titled 2nd year of the BAH RR (or something close to that). The second year posting will be used for all future posting of progress and I will cross link the two threads for those of you that want to go from one to the other.
The photo's that follow are intended to show what happened; it is not an exercise in great photography (I tried, but it was not worth the effort).
The room on 7/28/2006:
One of the preliminary layout "plans" that shows overall layout and dimemsions:
Going clockwise around the room - starting at the door (same spot as above):
Notice that I cut out some of the clutter but left the top of mount messy (another community will be built there) intact.
Comments ? Thanks for looking.
Alan,
Tremendous progess is just a year. Thanks for sharing all your hard work with the rest of us.
I was wondering what happened to that famous LONG climbing turn!
Good progress!

Thanks - I enjoy the empire and working on it.

40 pounds of hydrocal and a bunch of window screen can cover up a lot of track ! - Thanks.
Very nice looking work Alan. I haven't been a member here too long but have been a modeler for about 40 years. I've looked at your other pictures as I've checked out the older threads and you do a nice job on scenery. The two level layout is very intriguing. What is the maximum grade on that climb? Is any of the trackage switchbacks or is it all a straight climb?
Regards, Jim

I have 100' of mostly hidden track to climb the 24" level change. This is an average grade of 2 % with no switchbacks. You can follow the progress of the climbing loops in this posting: http://www.trains.com/trccs/forums/885598/ShowPost.aspx

It's easy to see if you look at the number of views versus the number of replies to your posts. Please keep us "talk radio" types up to speed on your layout. We all appreciate and applaud the amazing amount of railroad you have achieved in such a small space.
Thanks for the nice comments. Unfortunately; life is interfering with RR time right now. It has been four days since I even looked to see if the layout was still there . Hopefully, I will get back to the layout soon.

An update !
I got down to (and in) the train layout room today for the first time in two months. No work on the layout; however I did run some trains and everything worked great.
I think that I owe those of you that are/were following this thread a small explanation of what is happening here. No sympathy needed; just a small explanation.
Nine years ago, I had a large and very deep Melanoma removed from my left forearm (the scar looks like a shark bite).
Three months ago it returned with a vengeance. No major organs infected yet; however most of my lymph nodes are enlarged and I have one small ( 2") lump on my lungs. I am now tied to an Oxygen generator and have an estimated life span measured in months.
I will continue to operate the layout and do some construction work as I feel like it. I may (or may not) have any construction updates worth adding to the thread. If I do, I will update the thread.
Thanks to all for the encouragement over the last year. It has been fun and I hope to continue for a while with it.
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming- WOW what a ride!"
The skid has started. I hope that it is a long one.
You can count me as a fan of the BAH Railroad as well....as someone who is approaching the 2 year anniversary of working on the layout, I am amazed at how much you've accomplished in one year! My layout is nowhere near as complete as yours.....
I wish you the best in your near future.....may it be a long and comfortable future.

Research; it's not just for geeks.
You've come a long way these past two years! I've been keeping my eye on your layout and all you've accomplished. Keep up the good work.
Have Fun.... Bob.
I am sure that all our prayers are with you.

Alan , i'm saddened by your news . i hope you'll make the best of the time you have left , and thank you for sharing your enjoyment of our hobby with the rest of us .

Alan.
I am very sorry to hear about your setback. I am one of those that does not go online very often, but I have been following your progress. Remember to just keep fighting with a positive attitude, and every so often look over your shoulder. If you happen to see the Devil trying to sneak up on you, just spit in his eye and tell him to go back to H E double hockey sticks where he belongs and continue to fight even harder.
Remember, you have a lot of friends out here pulling for you and looking to you for inspiration for our own layouts.
Here is nothing but the best to you and yours.

To all that have responded: (and to the ones that read and did not respond :)
Thank you for the nice comments. I intend to fight this out to the end. Model railroading is part of my immediate future even though most of it will be operating rather than building.
I will continue to participate in the forums and post results of layout progress.
I have enjoyed watching the rapid progress you have made on your layout. I am very sorry to hear of your cancer. I will include you in the prayers that we are already saying for my brother and father who are also fighting cancer. Keep your spirits up and continue sending us updates on your layout.
Good luck
John
Oh, Man! That's really crappy! But you have a great attitude!
Good luck, Alan, and make sure you drop in and let us know how you're doing. And enjoy that railroad!
