Problem with noisy motors when using LGB Jumbo

Has anybody the same problem with using the LGB 10 amp Jumbo Transformer ?

I've just bought a used one and when all the power is off and all the controls are set to 0 the motors make a sort of whining sound but the engine does not move. I measured the track voltage with the engine on the track and it's a constant 0.2 volts DC.

Without the engine on the track the voltage is 0.765 volts DC

Is this normal and can it damage the motors ? 

I've tested the jumbo with a Bachmann 2-8-0, a Accucraft 2-8-0 and an old Bachmann 0-4-0 but all make the same noise from their motors.

The sound unit in the 2-8-0 works fine so there is no "signal noise" from the jumbo.

Not the answer you're looking for but I would put a switch into one (or both) of the track wires to cut power totally to the track when everything is stopped to protect the motors - just in case! A big welcome as well.

LGB have a small statement on this matter, to do with DCC and i think it will apply to ordinary DC installations as well. What they are saying is the noise is to do with electromagnetic noise and it is not harmful. I sold transformers for a living for 18 years and i would say that there is some sense in this and it will be much more eveident when lightly loaded or not loaded at all compared with a good working load.

I guess it is as cold in Norway as it is in hot here in Queensland. I have been to Denmark but didn't quite make it to Norwy although i nearly went to Sweden by mistake, got on the wrong ferry line up.

I know of a large commercial layout that uses 2 Jumbos and they experienced the same noise problem. They did install switches to toally cut power. I guess they call it Jumbo for a reason.

Yeah mate i think your right but the reason is its size i think, i don't think they expect it to go around trumpeting or ripping trees up by the roots though.
