Mikes Train House is a big player in the three rail O guage market. However, they do have a 1:32 scale line of models. I have never owned one and was in the hobby shop to and about to pick one (g scale bigboy) off the shelf, when I saw the new CTT out of the corner of my eye. I saw the MTH vs. Lionel lawsuit story and went to the next isle and spent all $1,079.95 I had saved up for that thing and bought two of the Santa Fe Flyer starter trainsets (one for each of my twin little brothers), and a Southern Pacific Overnight Freight set.

The system that MTH has is awesmoe...well it is for o-scale anyway. They made one huge mistake when entering into g-scale, they used thier same technology that they use in o-scale. This technology is ment for indoors and cannot handle the dirty track and sometimes poor connections often experienced with garden railroading. I had 3 dash-8s at one time and became very frustrated using the DCS system. I had problems such as being able to turn the bell on, but not off. Another problem is this, if you engine hits a dead spot in the track, it will shut down, then when it get electricity again, it takes off at full speed which is 120 smph. Again, if you are going to be inside mth is awesome. The sound is unbelievable, the best I have ever heard. The downfall is that the bell, horn/whistle, cab-chatter and other sound features can only be accessed using the DCS system and cannot be triggered by magnets.

I am into G Gauge.

I have MTH's Big Boy, Northern, Challanger, and J3.

Very good looking and runs great and pulls great.

problem 1  they all have track whippers. You have to modify all your switches (turn out). the whippers short at frogs. The whipper ride inside the flanges just enough to cause the short.

the challanger both drive trucks are articulated. the big boy the rear truck is fixed like the real one.

The sound system is the best ever. except the whistle is to long. you can not short, long, short. it is long, longer, long

I would like the start up steam release to be controled by me. Sometime you want it longer. it sounds so great.

I will buy any STEAM engine MTH put out in G.

if they come out with a PA and PB, and GG1 I will buy immediately.

contact me directly with any questions spikejones52002@yahoo.com

I own one MTH product , their challenger steam locomotive . All that has been said about it is true such as problems with control of some of the features cuz of dirty track etc . The MTH's would not be my primary source of motive power , but that being said it IS the most fun train to operate with the proto 2.0 system . You do have to have good track if you are gonna use it outside. I'd recomend them .
