Thanks for the info...

I will be up in my Grandfathers neck of the world within the next month.  I will have to take a picture if the track is still set up and measure the gauge of the track.   The above info is from memory of which the neighbor setup the trains in the mid-80's.   The track was still there as of last year, I think his son was running them now.

Could it have been the old Buddy L stuff? Those things were HUGE tinplate. About the only place I've actually seen any for sale was at the TCA meet in York, Pa....and it was WAAAAAAAAAYYY outa my price range!

As for ride on trains, try Father Finelli's website (http://www.steamingpriest.com).... or at the risk of un-authorized advertising you might like to look at what I offer (http://www.catfish-hollow.com/rr.htm)

I would love to know what size this is. He could not ride on it so that would be smaller then 1/8 scale.   Also where is a good place to buy larger the G scale trains?  I don't know much of anything about the train market in larger then O scale.
Thanks

Ryan;
A little more information if you please.

An old photograph, or a date (at least what year.)  From the information you have given it is very easy to classify it as "Suitable For G Scale".  It could have been 1:19, 1:22.3, 1:29, 1:30, etc. the manufactures all seem to use the phrase "Suitable For G Scale" on their boxes.

About the only thing they have common in their measurements is that they all run on 45 mm track.  The track will come in different tie spacings and sizes thereby making it different "scales" even though the railhead spacing is the same.

If you could give more information, there are some really knowledgeable folks on this site who could come close to answering your question.

My Grandfather had a neighbor who had a garden railyard in his back yard (w/o the garden).  I am trying to find out what scale it must have been.  From what I remember the Box Cars were about 1.5 to 2 foot in length.  Which could be any where from 1/20 to 1/30 in scale? I would love to know what size this is.
