What i would like is a piece of really cheap rolling stock, that i could put some explosives in and blow the buggery out of it when I felt like it. It would be so cheap this would not be a finacial burden or so strong i could reuse it!

What about that

Welllllllll, the way I see it: if they would have built it to the config for which they lettered it, I wouldn't have to kitbash, would I??

When you have some spare time have a look at the comparison charts at http://www.rhb-grischun.ca/E/html/comparison-tables.html
That will show you two things:

1) that I have quite a bit of LGB RhB stock

2) that it is the exception when they have consistent scale on a "model"

and as a bonus

3) I paid for all the stuff, no freebies for review purposes for me.[;)][:)][:)]

True enough and sometimes less work than "adapting" this and "correcting" that.

But it depends what it is i.e. to generate certain roof forms is a pain in the rear, filing away a few seams is much easier. The same applies for some of the window openings - especially on post 50s cars.

And then there is the well-known "from three make two" method, which produces what should have been in the first place.

Actually that is "LGB Bashing" i.e. you measure, you compare and then build the rest.

A lot more RhB bashes in the works and Bachmann is as good a starting point as LGB.[:0][:0]

I've learnt all my posting from Benny.SOMETIMES it's like this.
The blinder poll would be good.
Keep it for the fine scale.
It has no place here!
The main problem on this site is weather you can do HO ( maybe OO ) or 'O' in the garden.[:D]
The 'so many years' has no place in modelling.

They make for good(son) reading. [;)][}:)][:D][:D]

One day we'll do a poll on "Which blinders do you prefer?".

Of course even better would be a blind test, similar to what they do with Coke and Pepsi. It would be the ultimate irony: "The blind scale test of railway models."[}:)][}:)][:)][:D]

But Dave.I know I'm perfect.
I have LGB and Aristo.
I use MTS.
However I don't take the p*** out of the stuff other people use.
I know you have a problem about a certain manufacturer but I have only noticed that you have mentioned it once.
I use LGB for the kids and Aristo bogies for the stuff I build.
I respect the people that use battery power or track power or bloody rocket power.
What I don't like are people that continually snipe (unless it's me[:)] )
about various makes or power units.

As a result the thread will end up as a tag match between you and TOC.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm [;)][}:)][;)]

Actually I don't give a fig about who chooses which DCC system! Nor do I worry if someone runs with battery power, live steam or whatever!

The poll is about "would you buy items that are built to scale - as in: all three dimensions having the same scale". But to put it more bluntly: Would you buy items that are to scale, even if you don't care about scale?

Just to get this straight: TOC and I don't get into p*i*s*s*i*n*g matches, never have and I doubt we will.

And I really don't care how long you or others have been in the hobby. I found out a long time ago - this was job related - that some people have 20 years of experience and others have 20 times one year of experience, something to do with short memories and short attention spans. You get that everywhere, job, hobby or .........you name it.

PS On the LGB bashing, yep I do that quite regularly, here is proof

That was a four axle Murtalbahn car and will be a two axle RhB B 2075

Troy.
Really?

Sure looks to me it's a referendum on one who's answer to everything, no matter what, is "buy LGB", hence my post that I do have a lot of LGB, use it all the time.
I have no issues with durability.

Tag match?
Not hardly.

Sure, HJ uses dastardly cantankerous control systems, but, hey, we can't all be as perfect as you and I.
If everyone was, we wouldn't look so good!

Oh, absolutely.
I have LGB, several engines on shed, several stored.
About 1/4 of my rolling stock is LGB.
Robust, light on detail, expensive, but it runs good.
The issue is the blinders....

Just for the record, I like LGB, they make excellent products that are durable and long lasting. I just can't justify the cost when I can get US style equipment from USAT, Aristo-craft and a host of other manufacturers that are less expensive, but not less reliable.

Perhaps LGB does have a huge market worldwide, I don't have any reason to doubt otherwise, but in my country, they don't. I won't go into the politics of economics, but competition is a good thing for the consumer. IF I could afford to do so, I may be tempted to buy LGB, but as it is, for my modeling money, I look to other offerings and have found them sufficient for my needs.

What I don’t understand is why some people are so brand-loyal as to blind themselves to what the rest of the world is producing. When the iron curtain fell, we all got a wake-up call when some of the Czech models hit the western markets. I’ve seen people so devoted to Harley-Davidson that they refuse to even consider the thought that maybe the Japanese have been building better bikes for years and that Harley is technologically out of date. The world is a big place, LGB is a high quality manufacturer, but it’s just one of many.

Perhaps if the original question was "if LGB made equipment at Bachmann prices, would you buy it" The no-brainer answer is, of course, yes.

John, I think the Accucraft wagons have been available for a while now - I've read a couple of reviews by people who've bought them and seemed happy with them. They don't really suit my collection though sadly (Swiss/German/Austrian narrow gauge) - having said that I will be taking a good look at them next time I go to my local stockist!

I still feel the prices are important - LGB charge the same for a small 4-wheel passenger car as they do for one of their big US freight cars. Given Aristo can make a 4-axle loco with twin power trucks for £200, how come anything similar from the LGB stable is £300+? I've noticed that their US range is substantially cheaper than the European range - maybe it's because they have competition that they can't beat just by claiming "German Build Quality"?

Personally I'd love to see some metre gauge prototypes to 1:22.5 at sensible prices - Kiss and Brawa, while very nice indeed, both cost more than LGB.

Ya know, HJ, I was going to mention urinary tracts but figured it was in poor taste.
Seeing it in print, however, made me re-think that.

PS I understand LGB have more of the world market than all other brands put together doubled.

Welllllllll, I didn't ask about KISS and BRAWA either.
This may come as a surprise but for some reason Aristo, Bachmann, Hartland etc. etc. have more of a ring with Northamerican Large Scalers.

Regarding the PS: would you like to present some figures or is this strictly a "I have a feeling in my urinary tract" impression?

I don't know where your understanding comes from.
Everybody has to deal with loss of market share, failure to compete globally in cost structure, hence jus about everything is now made in China , including some LGB.
Sure would like to see you figures.
Or, maybe I wouldn't.

I voted no, and it is not because i am not a rivet counter and scale is really of little consequence to me, unless it is glaringly too big or small. Most of the stuff you mentioned i cannot and will not use; I only use LGB as does most of the world, why you didn't askl about LGB is beyond me.

OK, I give,,,you got me. I thought about this on the way home tonight. I don't buy 1:32 because it looks to small with 1:29.
Proportion is what its all about, not scale. I am so glad we have so many choices in ,,G gauge,,,,hehehehe

Is it REAL? or Just 1:29 scale?

Hey Marty,

When I want a foreshortend 3/4 view of a train - including models - I use a telephoto lens, not a selectively compressed "model".

Besides it isn't just scale, scale, scale... it is proportions, proportions, proportions.

If you have one of the LGB F7s kicking around put it on that bridge of yours - the one that is real, alright - and take a few shots from different angles along with your standard rolling stock. [;)][}:)][}:)][;)] Better yet, do a lash up with a FA and/or a PA.

Hey Tony,

What NMRA designated in the LS department is more or less "Alphabet Soup" i.e. quite "thick" (whichever definition you'll apply will be OK), less than transparent (no surprise) and plenty to chew on!

Well, as we know LGB started promoting the "G" logo in a big way - matter of fact they even issued an "official definition" out of Nürnberg. I stored it somewhere, have to have a look see if I can find it. [:)][:)]

Now that logo was very tempting and I just couldn't resist....

"G just like rubber"

BTW if you wonder why the slogan doesn't quite line up ........ hmmmm I applied a few different ratios and that's what I got.[;)][}:)][:)][:D]
