Alternative for modeling abandoned sidings.

The recent posts about abandoned sidings gave me an idea. Instead of an actual abandoned line, why not model a "Rail Trail?" The old NYC Walkill Valley line passes by my college and I hike it often. This may be too modern for most of us but I figured I would put it out there.

GP-9,

This isn't an abandoned rail trail but the ROW could make for some nice hiking. Also, the abandoned piers make nice fishing platforms.

I've incorporated abandoned trackage in 1/2 of my entire layout. I just think it looks cool.

oh, one more. The rails are shiny b/c the trucks that now do all the shipments keep them that way when rolling over them.
