I think Asters are basically LGB, if so have you considerred running LGB MTS.

If you can afford and Aster you can afford MTS.

Or did i not read it properly is it live steam?

Also try the Steam in the Garden message board www.steamup.com , then click on "message board." There are a number of Aster enthusiasts who hang out there regularly, and can probably help out with fairly specific assistance. It's definitely possible, but I'm not familiar with the loco to offer any assistance beyond the intuitive "Buy a 2 or 3 channel R/C system and the smallest servos possible." RCS also makes controls for live steam locos, so that, too, is an option. You'll still need the smallest servos possible.

Is the loco alcohol or gas fired? If it's gas fired, you'll need two channels - one for the throttle, one for direction. If it's alcohol fired, you'll also want a third channel to control the blower, so when you're stopped, you can keep the draft going. Also, if you have other things like a whistle or water pump in the tender, you'll want additional channels to control them as well.

Congrats on completing your first live steamer. The good thing about starting with an Aster is that everything else is comparitively cheap! Have fun, and perhaps we'll see you in Diamondhead one year.

[#welcome] An LMS Duchess, lovely. I'm going on Asters site afterwards to have a look. One way to consider if you run one loco at a time is to use the Aristocraft Train Engineer. This is a unit that goes between the transformer and the track and a hand held unit controls the voltage to the track, the hand held is about the size of the old mobile phones and you set it and forget it. I've had mine for about a year and it's great, Sandy at Scottish Garden Railways, www.gardentrains.co.uk is a good supplier, that's me assuming you're a brit!

Hi Everybody
I Have just started in this great hobby of model railways, yes it is expensive but what hobby's are'nt. I have joined the gauge one model railway association, and just completed Asters latest live steam loco, (The Duchess of Sutherland)
in L M S livery. I am told that I can R/C this model but do not know how to, can any one out there help me please
