NEW! BOXCAR PICS- THERE HERE!
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, October 22, 2004 5:01 PM
Well, I just got done painting my 3 boxcars. Tommarrow I intend to head to G Scale Juction for my wheel sets and any detail parts I can score for them so pictures will be sent out to those of you that I have E-mail addresses for after completion. if you think I don't have your E-mail address then send it to me if you would like to view the pics. I Originally intended on ordering my parts by mail but some how the time never presented itself to me[V].
I just also might take the plunge of being a MLS first class member so I can post the pics and link them here[;)]

FYI, I did the first class membership over there so just post them here. However my wife took the two little ones to Kentucky for the weekend and the digital camera[:(!] So maybe Sunday or Monday I'll post them.
I must say it's my first weekend alone with no wife and little kids in a long long time.[:p]

Hey Matt,

Well here they are, It's still not finished, need to install short draft Kadee's so the wheel turning is not inhibited. Also the other sides door is not on yet[:D].
I like the dry transfers but I would like them taller, these are 1/2" I'd like 3/4" tall.
The Ozark door kit also didn't adapt well so I made my own top track out of flat welding rod and used the top track for the latch side stop. Grab Irons also will be installed. I weathered the trucks and need to do a little more on right side sheeting, notice the color difference from the left. The roof is a shingle roof individually cut Two layers over lapping with a brass ridge, if you look closely under the walk you'll see it.

So What do you all think???????[?]

Special Thanks! To Phil Creer for getting me off my butt and making it look easy!
Thanks to all those who answered my post along the way!

Jmozz, in the kit there ought to be 4 U shaped pieces, these or two per side fit into the top channel the zig zag shaped ones 4 per side, are the 3 across the bottom and the forth to stop over travel of the door. I used JB Weld to attach all of the pieces and then I'll go back and glue the bolt heads on.

Hope that helps?

Great looking stuff you have there, Im still working on mine but here is the progress I have so far. They were the Outside framed plans from GR of course.

Also I have found a great place for Trucks and very reasonable prices they are all metal
http://www.oldpullmanmodelrailroads.com/

They have Archbar and bettendorf Style in all metal and metal wheels for about 25.00 pair 20.00 on ebay (beats 50.00 everywhere else I looked)
Please let me know how you guys sand all the small wood with out sanding down your fingertips like I have : ( That 1/8 sq is a b*@%h to sand!)

Here is my link for my pics

http://community.webshots.com/album/198370434ZFtbaT

Can you give me some ideas as far as lettering and how it will work with the frame in the way, and where to get the transfers.

I would letter it like they due Stock Cars, they hang a board with the name across the outside frame.

Thank you for your comments!
Also those are Hartford Trucks that I got for $16.00 a pair and they are metal and sprung, had to add some bachman metal wheels though.

Hi Matt,
I am using 3" pvc drain Pipe couplings and caps for the tank, and a stock floor from GR Pull out plans. I added some tool boxes at the front or rear of the tank , depending on how you look at it ,and other bits and pieces. I will try and post some pics. It still needs some work .

Hi jmozz,

I used some drawings that I found on the web and other photos of tank/water cars that I came across. The basic frame is the standard floor from from GR pull out plans with a few addons of my own. If you want I can give you some pics etc by email if you want. Feel free to email me

Hi jmozz,

I am using photos and drawings of tank cars /water cars that I found on the web. And floor plans fron GR pull out section drawings. I will be more than happy to share any material with you or anyone else that is interested.
Feel free to email me if you like. (just put GR in the subject line of the mail, as I use an email spam killer)

Lets see if this works. It should be the tank car with the tank sprayed black.
