Caboose marker lights?

Not sure the technical name for them but does anybody make working lights like the ones you see on the side of cupola's? Battery power would be great.

Thanks!

Matt; LGB have both European and American marker lamps and i think they will run on nearly any electrical power you like. I am hoping to get an Alpine Baggae car and illuminate it both inside and out with these light. You can also get a kit which allows you to pick up power from the rail via the wheels or from a powered device such as a loco or a lighted carriage. I use my post office van for power supply for my little fun train.

Regards

Ok Matt

The LGB number for the European marker lamps is 68331, there is an American one as well I think but I don't know its number. The ball bearing wheel set with power pick up is 67403. These are exxy but you will be amazed at how well your rolling stock will go. I have a number of luxury coaches plus my post office van (LGB 32190)equipped with them and you can't leave them even on the slightest grade or they will roll away from you they are so free wheeling.

I have taken a photo its on it way to you hope you can discern it.

Rgds ian

PS they aren't really a kit just the parts required so I guess their a kit of sorts.

Not sure yet, I'm more or less thinking ahead. My boxcars are ready to paint and the wheels and detail parts are coming so I'm planning ahead for my next project. I'll let you when I get to that point. Also Ill e-mail out boxcar pics upon completion.

Matt Ozark Miniatures has 2 different marker lights, Cat # 1028 & 1030. These can be made to work with a little drilling.

I've used the Tomar lights, and they work well. They may be just a touch small for 1:20.3. If I recall, they're about the same size as the Ozark ones, unless they've come out with larger ones (a definite possibility.) Certainly worth an e-mail to both to find out the sizes.

I bought a pair of the Tomar Industries Adlake caboose marker lights and they are pretty cool. My problem is that I want to trade out the incandescent bulbs that come with the marker lights for LED's. Apparently this is possible because Tomar sells replacement bulbs. It is not apparent to me how to remove the bulbs without major hacking. I have tried contacting Tomar but no response so far. Has anyone attempted to do this?

I hope someone can help you. Phil hasn't posted since last year and Matt hasn't posted since 06. Dont know what's happened but alot of long-timers here have gone away. The economy hasnt been kind to a great many folks.

   Have fun with your trains

The marker lights on the caboose pictured below are Ozark Miniatures (1:20.3) markers.  Their 1:24 markers are a little too small in my opinion.

I used Ozark #1028

They came with green and red lenses.  Since the D&RGW used amber colored lenses, I also purchased Ozark #1029 (Amber Lenses)

To light them, I used Miniatronics 12 volt bulbs.  They are powered by a 9 Volt battery.  As mentioned above in a previous posting, you do have to drill out the marker light castings in order to light them.  You also have to sand the backs of the lenses to remove the backing paper.  But it is worth it in the end.

USA Trains sell the American style caboose lights and I think they are smaller than the LGB American ones.

I split the marker lights on my Aristocraft track cleaner car after removing them. I used a sharp blade to prise them apart. There is provision inside them for an LED which I placed in and then stuck the light together again. Place a resistor in the line & use a battery to power themwith on/off switch. Works well, but as most of my running is in the day time, I tried it for an experiment.

Also removed LED from my Rogers and installed new LEDs & resistor. This can be seen as you run into shadows around the track. All of my trains are battery remote, so I remove light globes & smoke units which gives much longer running time.

Installed LED's into Bachman carriages, replacing overhead lighting.

Cheers from Andrew
