I have a GP-30 and a GP-38-2, and I want to put kadee couplers on them. I see that the GP-30 take a #831 and the GP-38-2 takes a #785. I can not see the difference between the two. Why can't you use one set of the same style couplers for both locomotives? What is the difference?
You can look at the 785 contents by clicking on it...
http://www.kadee.com/htmbord/page785-1785.htm
It includes the centering spring shown in the page... the 831 does not come with it... it's a small piece of spring metal bent in a 90 degree bend, the picture shows it edge on, it centers the coupler box.
Get the ones that Kadee recommends on their conversion list.
