My wife is in the hospital with severe internal issues not related to the pregnancy, but surgery is not possible due to the baby being 8 months along. I am staying near the house to take care of things and still trying to do a little work in the mean time, but that is difficult when you work in the railroad industry. The doctors are trying to manage her pain and still have her be able to eat and drink until the baby is born in a few weeks, so until then she is still in the hospital. For those on the forum that are spiritualy oriented, prayer would be a good thing right now so feel free....

James' layout is open from 11 till dusk both days. The SDGRS meeting at Quail Gardens starts at 1pm.
I'll be there around that time (1pm) with my dad, and spend a little time at the gardens and then over to James' house to see his layout after that.

That logo looks pretty darn nice. I know where you are talking about, I was born in the 50's in Fallbrook, and spent a lot of time on 76, between Fallbrook and Oceanside train station.

Good news, just got a call from the grandson, he is going to be out in my area next month. He had the nerve to ask if I could do a few hours of babysitting his two kids. Ofcourse I told him I would be happy to have some alone time with my two great-grandkids! The boy is 5, girl is 3, it's been a while since I had to deal with such little people, but I'm sure it will be fun.

The doc wanted to put me on a different pill. I told him "No thanks: three strikes and you are out." Rather go to the restroom every half hour than to loose control of blood pressure. This time he agreed and dropped the issue. (Most importantly so did the wife!)
The stuff looks good, sorry to hear the meds are still messing with you Tom. Sorry I didnt add anything to this contest, I've been too busy to do anything on the bench, been able to keep messing with the new portable, its all wired up and running, moved the powerpacks from the rear to the front so I dont have to pull the whole thing away from the wall to run it, it makes a BIG difference.

My daughter got me one of Piko's Christmas water tanks while I was locked up in hosp.
Son-in-law made a few changes, ripped off the plastic icicles, replaced the rubber bands that formed the tank bands with copper wire. He also changed the color. I figure he did a good job as it was his first attempt, especially since he has problems with most equipment without a keyboard.
Now for the real reason for this post. Here is what my "builders challenge" looked like before the fast trip to see the doc. First the full building:
Wife says she hates the thing. "Nothing is straight, roof is ‘twisted'. Looks like it was built by a bunch of intoxicated cowboys." I said "Thanks, that is the effect I was going for!" A 110+ year old stockade/jail converted to depot.
Here is the "burned out shell" before the fire. I still have to add on all the debris caused by the side of the building collapsing from the fire.
Hello Tom don't worry we will postpone it for week or two.You get your self better and then we will go from there no need to rush things. My dad's heart doc has been changing his meds and I have been running him back and forth every other day so they can check his levels. Hope you feel better Frank

Frank: It is official, you win. No, the fire did not get out of control, but the fire dept did show up, Thursday (2 July) evening. (Paramedics) I got both of the "Historic Sturctures" 90% built before the BP went down to 65/48 and going down as the medics were checking. The doc has me confined while running tests. I think he will let me go home in the morning. This is the third trip in as many months, it is all caused by the meds he has me on to shrink the old prostate. Three different meds, three trips to ER, I told him "Don't bother trying to find another pill, I would rather have problems empting the bladder than flopping aroud the kitchen from a lack of blood pressure." When I get home I'll post pix of what I had done on the project. (My hospitial is WIFI equipped, so am working on the old laptop.)
Since I'm not in it, maybe I don't get a vote, but even before seeing the other entrants I'd say the fence is worth at least an "Honorable Mention".
demonstrates utilizing materiels for a purpose not intended, out of the box thinking, a fence around the yard is indeed a wayside structure. It meets the letter and spirit of the challenge!

Frank: Just "putzing" with you. Of course, a builders challenge is open to anyone in any scale. The object of a builder challenge is to 1: Enjoy the hobby. 2: Get a new structure for your RR at minimal cost. 3: Become a little more "earth friendly" and use reclaim/recycled materials. 4: Share ideas for new buildings. You've still got almost two weeks so get busy.

I always encourage any modeler to expand his or her horizons and scratchbuild something. Yes, any scale is welcome,but as trigg stated, the bragging rights prize will be limited to the garden RR crowd. I am very interested in seeing what can be made from free scrap with only the builder's creativity added in.
My project is funded (at $0 it's a steal) and planned, and the raw materials are on hand. I hope I can work on it by the deadline. I've had some major family issues crop up in the last week that has consumed 100% of my time, but I will not dissapoint.....
Frank: A Builders Challenge is open to anyone and any scale. Just be aware that if you are not building in G scales (i.e. HO, N, O, Z, or any of the "ride on" scales) you will not be eligible for first prize, you will be limited to second place. However, Second Place finishers will earn exactly the same as first a place finish. Prize for first place: Cash = zip, nada, none; Trophies: you will have a new structure for you RR; You will however have Bragging Rights. Second Place through Last Place will have same as first place except bragging rights. In my case I will have a "2 fer" (that's a two for one, and you will have to read the headlines of the morning edition of the Rosebud Falls Gazette on the 4th of July to find out what the "2 fer" is.)
