An open house as part of a club meeting counts here. [:D]

have had two open houses, my first one was for all types of motive power and the second was for live steam only, both were extremely successful, i seemed to panic before each event lol. My wife kept me in check though. All made possible with the seven P approach, which is "proper prior planning prevents **** poor performance!" You can thank my wife for that one...

We have been having at least one open house for club members each year for the last ten years. Last summer we held two open days for our club members. In 1999 we were open for the entire N.M.R.A. national convention with over three hundred people visiting our back yard railroad.

Having an open house gets one off their duff and building on the RR like nothing else can.

We have had at least two open house gatherings per year since 1981. A few years ago our house was on a Christmas house tour and 1,000 + visitors visited the house and garden railroad. This year so far, we are planning on three: A club meeting, co-workers gathering and the LGBMRRC Convention self guided garden rr tours. Always a lot of fun!

The LGB and Garden Railway Club in Sydney has one every month at various club members homes and they were terrific, about 80 plus would attend of all ages. You learn so much from people who have been in garden railways for so long.

However I have moved from Sydney up here to the Sunshine Coast some 500 miles away and don't get the opportunity to attend any more.

When I can get a bit more of my garden railway constructed, I will try and start one locally, as I can get the details of local enthusiasts from the Club when it is required.

I volunteered to do an open house for our club last year, and it was really great! Not only does it allow you to "show off" your garder layout, you learn a lot from visitors. You have features that they appreciate seeing. You have problems that they have previously solved. So everyone wins! Do it! You'll enjoy the experience. About 40-50 club members showed up at my open house!
