Having Trouble with Ridge Road.
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 30, 2006 6:09 PM

I have spoken well of this organisation in the past and i still think they are prett good but they have well and truly mucked up a delivery to me and the matter is still not sorted out. Payed them 2 November but still havent got the goods, the shipment has obviously gone astray and this does happen from time to time. But they have so much business on at the moment i don't think they can handle things properly, well it appears that way to me.

ie they havent handled a lost shipment very well at all. didn't even send the original shipment as i asked or none of this would have happened. Saying they are not getting emails all the time as well.

Ian, You need to contact the advertising department at Kalmbach. GR very much wants to know when one of their suscribers has an issue with one of their advertisers. You need to send her the whole story as well as where the issue lies today. You will not get a reply before the new year though. I had an issue in the past and Kalmbach intervened on my behalf. That should resolve the issue quickly. Regards eh...Brian.

Ian,

RidgeRoad also has a FAX number: 585-638-7229.

We ordered some materials last week (for our own layout), first we received a phonecall to clarify one item, next day we received an email that they don't carry a certain line, yesterday we received the email notice that the shipment left.

Just an indication that they communicate very well!

Yes Elizabeth they have communicated very well to me in the past, but not so right now.

All else aside i paid for goods 2 months ago and i haven't got them. They have claimed that at least 4 of my communications have gone astray.

As usual you haven't told me much i don't already know. I have already sent them a number of faxes, their fax number is on the their website, so how is that going to help me. I would really like to get my stuff it is holding everything up.

Dear Ian,

Sorry to disappoint and not telling you anything new - perhaps you know everything already???

OK, here is my advise based on 28 years of model railway equipment import/export experience.

1. When ordering specify precise shipping mode.

2. Make sure shipment is insured and includes a tracking number.

3. Ask for a dispatch advise (in our experience that is normal from RidgeRoad)

4. As soon as you receive the dispatch advise, check the tracking number on the forwarder's website.

The above will enable you to follow the shipment from the sender right to your door and it will also indicate precisely where the snag is. Perhaps this advise is too late for the shipment in question, but it could help with subsequent shipments.

Regards

ER

PS When there are forwarding problems, leaning on the forwarder will show quicker results than contacting the shipper. Most forwarders have toll-free numbers and since it is on their dime persistence will pay! At least that is our experience.

Assuming that you paid for the order with a credit card: Contact the credit card company; inform them of the non-receipt and non-response; and have them cancel the charge (they will investigate things on their own).

Then just start over again with another dealer of your choice to get the items you want.

No point in messing with things.  You either received your order or you didn't.  If you didn't, just get out of the deal and find another source for those items.

if you failed to specify delivery, and it went surface (or, Slow Boat to China), and you've only waited two whole months, well, bucko, I know a bloke a tad south of you who had one from the West Coast of the US where a dealer sent surface....

Six Months.

Thanks for the advice but i don't think much of this is applicable. I also have many years experience in importing and exporting and i don't need to be patronised by you or anyone else for that matter.

Allan i wouldn't be so tough, i don't know if i can even do it; i know you can cause a lot of trouble with Paypal under these circumstances.

Curmy what you say is quite right, they have been paid and they have not delivered and they have been very poor at communicating. They did not even give us an invoice, even though we asked for one and they did send us a partial shipment when we asked them not too. And other stuff they did not do, which would be in keeping with good business practice; there is a good reason for it, they have been overboard with volume of business, as i have had other deals with them in the past where they have been 100 % and i think this is only temporary glitch.

What you said about a slow boat is a worry, as it went letter rate instead of as asked Parcel Air, there seems to be an explanation for this but i am not in full understanding of this matter.

Rarely, twice in 4 years international letters (mainly christmas cards) have gone to Sri Lanka instead of to us and this has happened a few times to our neighbours as well. Why Sri Lanka you ask. Well I live in Maldives Place and automatic and semi automatice sorting machines, home in on our street and The Maldives is a department of the Sri Lankan postal system. This is a remote possibility

But all this aside anything can happen in the mails and i can't blame Ridgeroad for this but the way they have handled this entire matter compared to other shipments has been pretty bad.

Dear Ian,

Our advise is free, if it's followed is up to the reader.

We just know what works for us and why it works for us. Wink [;)] Both here in Canada and in our native Switzerland it is referred to as: Proper, consistent procedures.

Ian,

Have you contacted anyone in our advertising department about this yet? Email me the information and I can forward it on. I will need a list of things in order to help you, such as:

-what you ordered and when
-date items were promised
-date items were shipped
--date(s) you communicated with them, etc.

Rene

I have done lots of business with them and it has always been excellent. Whenever I had a question, I also called them up and talked with them directly. They were very helpful on the phone.

Yes i have too mate and i agree but this is terrible and if i was them i would be ashamed.

As i have said that anythging can go astray in the mails anytime. But how this has been handled is a disgrace; 10 weeks since i paid them and still no goods and they reckon about every second communication i send them, they do not get and i find it hard to believe.

Yes i can get the goods elsewhere but they are the cheapest and in the past they have been terrific; one of the best companies i have ever dealt with but something has gone wrong. Still no sign of the money they promised to repay me nearly a week ago.

Hi Ian, You are doing better then I did a few years back. I Paid for a 11 car work train (USA) that had been advertized for about 2 years before I ordered mine. It took almost 2 years for me to recive the complete set. Excuses were: some car's out of stock, out of my RR (MOW),the last was retooling of the last car. and they refused to give a refund ( after the first year) for the un-delivered ( backordered ) items. And by the way the last car color was a shade or two lighter.

The head is gray, hands don't work , back is weak, legs give out, eyes are gone, money go's and my wife still love's Me.

dw,

It sounds like you did eventually receive the products you ordered, but if you (or anyone) has a problem with any of our advertisers, please let me know and I will forward your information to our advertising department. Our advertising folks try very hard to work with the advertiser to find an amicable solution. (And please, when emailing me, provide dates and correspondence so I can forward those along).
