 Dep,

I was remembering your comments in this thread from end of last year.

I thought maybe you had your eye on one of the Century Club models again! :D.

Dave: You gotta think about becoming a fortune teller. Today I nailed a CC 671 S2 turbine new in box from Trainz. Big Smile [:D] Now I gotta search for the correct Pennsy tender for it. Anyone know the part number???

Also, Trainz has a 682 turbine on E-Bay:

nah - Jim's still a horse's butt - but he's a good fellow anyway. However, If that leaf he turned over was in his backyard there is probably a coffee can full of dough buried beneath it.

Dep,

No need to pay me. It set me back all of $2.00! Really, I don't want your money. Spend it on a set of new rollers and brushes for your 682. Glad I could help!

I'll trade the 682 for Jim's address and the F3s that he turned down. Big Smile [:D]

Dep,

If they are the type that are connected to 2 spring tension arms, one in each direction, the rollers are held in place by rivets on the arms. They can be replaced independent of the arms or you can replace everything. Jeff Kane from the Train Tender has most every part imaginable as does others. I use Jeff, he is knowledgeable and willing to talk to you about what you need. His info is listed online at www.ttender.com, prices are reasonable too. There's many more just google model train parts.

Good luck

How do you replace the rollers????

The replacement steps look to be held on with a machine screw-nut arrangement. I'm not gonna bother with the seller. Never does much good. I'll fix her up nice...no sweat Thumbs Up [tup]

Dep,

I'm sorry to hear it. Maybe all is not lost. The rollers are an easy fix and the steps on my 681 are attached to the guide under the drawbar hook held to the cab by 2 rivets. Maybe you can pick up a set. I do not know what you can do about the touch ups. Do you think reaching out to the seller would result in anything positive?

Frank's price was a super incredible deal. But I was worried that my two boys would damage the trains or the boxes or the papers. They are precotious to say the least. So I reluctantly turned him down, only to regret it. A few weeks later I told him I'd take them, but he had decided to keep them. By far my biggest toy train regret.

I actually didn't know Frank wanted the 736 I got until after the deal was done.  He has a gorgeous 726, so he isn't hurting.

Dep, now for the rest of the story.  That was during the Jim A the stingy days.  Now he has began to dig up some of that money he burried in his yard.  Missing the Santa Fe F units was part of the learning, "You snooze, you loose."  He use to be so tight with his money, I called him SQUEEKY.

Well my 682 and 2046 tender arrived today. I am a bit disappointed with it. The E-bay ad says "They almost look like new". That's a bit of an exageration. On the loco I can see a touch-up spot on the boiler and the two rollers will need replacement. Not sure but I think the steps are broken off both sides of the tender. Have to compare it with one of my replacement tender shells. It's okay...but not great. Disapprove [V]

ezmike: That 681 deal you got blows my 682 out of the water!!!! You even got the boxes!!!! Cool!!! Cool [8D]

Chief: Think I will wait for a magnetraction 736 instead of going for the one at Trainz. I think the Trainz loco might be a bit steep in price too.

Chief,

Here's the thing, I also have a 12-wheel 2671 that I purchased from my local train shop as a "mis-match" tender with a beautiful 2046, minimal chips and scratches, had both marker lights, un-cracked headlight, etc for $150 after a complete overhaul by the train shop's service department. So what the tender was missing a step and the previous owner of the loco rubbed off the 2046 decal. One really good repro tender shell and a decal from another source later and you wouldn't know it. I believe that the 2 tenders are technically interchangable so I can put them with which ever and run'em. Even put backup lights in both tenders. Boy, I'm having a ball, spending a lot onf money, but having fun.

I got mine from Jerry at "Miss Edna's".  Mr. Jim A, I got 12 wheel tender too.  Dep, they are heavy suckers with Magnatraction.   Takes some "juice" to get them rolling but they pull up a storm.  Running it on Realtrax [which does not attract Magnatraction like tublar] and still does not spin.  Only good thing about modern ones would be sound and remote control.  Smokes you out of the train room.  Maybe I will find a second one for a good price.  Convert it by putting sound and etc into tender.  Use a teather to motor.  We'll see.

Dep,

Here are photos of the 681 I picked up off ebay the weekend before last. The photos don't do it justice. Except for the chip on the catcher nose you have to hold it in your hand and search or at least look pretty hard to find scratches/chips. The tender is a repro shell but that doesn't matter to me but the frame is absolutely spotless, no rust or oxidation anywhere.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=110104887211&rd=1&rd=1

Runs great and whistles loud and strong.

Ahhhh...I see now. Oh man...been there done that Sad [:(]
Trainz actually has a 726RR for sale on their website for a pretty decent price. It's not magnetration (Korean War release) but that's no big loss for my use. I have the MTH tracks and they're non-magnetic.
