Just when I thought miracles were fiction, the KC Chiefs sneak into the playoffs!  After Denver lost, the first aerial bombs went off in the neighborhood, several hours before the New Year.  I guess I will have at least one more football game to watch although I do follow other NFL teams.  On the otherhand, the Missouri Tigers loss was frankly shameful for me but really tough on those players.

But those are just games.  Some folks on this forum have weathered some tough times, some have suffered loses.  While I am thankful for my blessings, I do think about those folks and pray for healing.  Regards to all in 2007.

Laz, glad your first down on the downhill side was good - sorry about the weather and no hunting for you.  Here in NC, it was the LAST day of the season.  Whatever will I do with my husband underfoot?  Can't seem to get him interested in my trains.  Oh, well.  Anyway, since you don't like grits, just thought I'd send you some jerky - made 2 kinds - had 8 trays total, so it took most all day with a 4 tray dehydrator.  Just finished cutting up a nice tenderloin to soak overnight for a venison stew for tomorrow.  Enjoy the jerky!

Good Night.

Speaking of Victorola and cranking, I've got one of those at Mom's.  Was my Grandparents and was left to me.  Big nice wooded furinture about chest high.  Open top doors for speaker.  Lower doors hold records.  Still got 1920's records.  Wind it up and it plays.

I see Marty made it home OK.

Later.

Thanks Lisa.  When I was State Fleet Manager, use to work some nights and weekends with a buddy Wildlife Officer [as sort of a aux WRC Officer].  He made great jerky.  We would patrol in his car and "sit up" in a hiding place and eat jerky waiting to hear a shot or spotlight.  Good stuff.  Now the coffee pot has grits, sweet ice tea and deer jerky.Dinner [dinner]

Evenin' All !

Wow! The bowl games must have been really boring today, everyone has been busy posting to "The New Pot" today.

It was really nice driving in to the museum this morning, no traffic at all. No lane hoppers, tailgaters and especially no stop-n-go traffic. Approve [^] A little slow at first, sleeping off the party I guess, but it got pretty busy later in the day. One little boy, maybe 5yo, was in hog heaven in there. I didn't think his mother was ever going to get him out of there, they'd leave and pretty soon here they come again.

Sorry Colin - I don't get to watch the Miami CSI - something about all those bathing suited beauties, I guess, but my wife doesn't care for that one.  We do watch the regular CSI show though.

Got my RH switch added for a spur to the sawmill, but ran out of straight track.  Checked 2 of my log cars - one dumps great, but the other one won't lift the same number of logs - with a few less, it dumps fine though.  Need more straight sections and a bumper though.

My sawmill is a 464 - trying to figure out how to get the dump cars to drop the logs in the right hand bin.  I guess I need to elevate the track, or lower the sawmill.  My whole layout is on foam board atop a table.  I might just cut through the foamboard, which would drop the sawmill down about 3/4 inch I think....  Will just let the kids do a "sneaker net" and handle the logs from a tray to the sawmill for now though.  I really like my 194 Copper Range Lionel 0-6-0.  Great little locomotive for the money (got it on ebay from a breakup).

The bathroom drawer from the builder was made of press board with a decal.  Slammed it the other day and the front dropped off - it was just stapled together.  Anyway, picked up a few feet of poplar today and my son and I planed it down to 1/2 inch, then ripped it, put a dado in for the bottom, dadoed in slots on the sides to help stabilize it, and glued/screwed it today.  Tomorrow we'll attach the false front that was on the old drawer as well as the slides and put it back, about 100 percent better than new.  Why don't they make anything out of real wood anymore?  Oh well - did get to make some sawdust with my son, which is always a good way to spend a few hours.  Then we cleaned up and went to Smokey Bones for dinner (Christmas gift card).  I had the NY Strip steak with a backed tater and green beans.  Let him order off the adult menu - he wanted ribs!!!!  I pointed out a guy eating them at the next table and he could see there wasn't much meat, so went for a big burger instead - whew!!!  My wife had chicken covered in sawmill gravy with mashed taters and my daughter had chicken fingers off the kids menu.  Dinner [dinner]  Then home to watch Avengers dvds with Mrs. Peel Wink [;)]

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Here we go!

Do I come here often? It says on my TOG's sweat shirt.

Stockport is wet and very windy it blew the fireworks out on the big night.

My niece who I haven't seen for ten years is coming to see me in March, I wonder what she'll make of Lionel? Got to get the paint pots out to spruce this batchelor pad up. My dear lady refers to it as a cross between an office, a train shed and a doss house. Aah well!

Hello All,

This is my first official post to the coffee pot.... I figured for 2007 I might as well do a few things different.

Oh, and Happy New Year.... as always, I am a day late and a dollar short, but better late than never.

I'm heading to the Museum of Science and Industry today to see the Great American Train Story.  Will try to take pictures of that and the Burlington Zephyr.  Gotta make the most of my last day before heading back to school and work.  The holiday break was good (I was off of school and work for 6 weeks, but still collecting my check Big Smile [:D]), but now it is time to be productive and work for a degree again.

Have a great day, everyone!

Good morning, everyone.

Going to be a warm week here in New England. I hope I'm feeling better by next weekend so I can attend the train show at the Wenham museum. Had I known about the show, I would not have given my wife my $150 Christmas cash to buy Chinese food for everyone on New Year's Eve!!! Doh!!! Easy come, easy go.

I picked up the kid's new engine on Friday. James from the Thomas line by Lionel. It's very light, doesn't seem to have magnatraction, and has a tether for the electronics in the tender. All said, I don't think it's as nice as Thomas or Percy.

Belated Happy Birthday to Laz!

Great to speak with Doug Murphy this weekend. Doug, I could have talked with you for hours.

Have a great day, all!

Greetings of Happy New Year to

Everyone Gathering at the Coffee Pot

The New Year even came to Alaska only a little later than everyone else but we finally made into the same year as the rest of the ya-all! (Us Sourdoughs in Alaska can speak several languages such as Rebel, Ranger and even a little Hillbilly:)

Up late or early which ever way you look at it and I thought I would catch up on some reading I have been to busy this week to sneek time to check in since Christmas Day. So from the Northland I hope everyone had a great first day of 2007. (I tried to post this message yesterday but our server went down while I was typing so it is a day late.)

Life in the north is getting brighter every day now since we are making are way back to the fine days of the arctic midnight sun! It is only 3minutes and 45 seconds longer than yesterday but hey it is longer not shorter so that calls for an Alaskan YaHoo for longer days!

Good morning all,

It is foggy and cool this morning, but the sun is supposed to come out and warm temps to the 40s today.  I started working on an article yesterday, but did not get very far.  Basically relaxed after the New Year's Eve party we had.  Lucas did have his girlfriend over for a while and all four of us watched a movie.  "Accepted" was the name of it, and it was pretty funny.  We also saw "Night at the Museum" last Friday night and it was pretty good.  Kevin, I share your observations of sunrise and sunset and track when it happens in Indiana as well.  I can not imagine what it is like to have such short days.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a partly cloudy 30 degrees. Going up to 50 today with mostly sunshine. This weather can stay this way until May.

Today, I am driving into Cambridge, to do some errand running. We need a few things. It's been a quiet weekend Holiday. No company. Few phone calls. We are sure popular. If we won the Lottery, we'd have cars lined up in the drive way. Never happen.

I'm curious as to what the Forum Bosses are going to do with the old Coffee Pot thread. I guess we'll find out today.

I'm now going to board the Dining Car for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Hi All,

Second day of the pot.  Added another shelf for the expanding fleet of locos last night.  I like the way the glass shelves work out.  Warm here for January but not complaining.  All with different bugs and colds, hope you get better soon.  Got to go check back later.

Top of the morning to y'all.

Busy with the kids as the bride is actually working today.  I have to go in later, but for the time being, it is Mr. Mom for me.  Lots of interesting quirks about dealing with kids, best dealt with by my bride.

Did not get too much done with the layout this weekend, to many honey-dos.  I absolutely must get back to it and get-R-done.  Anyway, hope everyone has  a great day and does not have any residual affects from the weekend festivities.

God Bless,

Dennis

Good morning from beautiful and sunny Central Ohio where our Buckeyes are getting ready for the big game on Monday.   I was sure glad to see Penn State and Jo Pa win.   Wisconsin also did themselves proud.  Of course the team up north, tanked again.  And Minnesota is now looking for a new coach...it is about time.

As to the pros, da Bears all the way.

Kevin, did I understand your post that in one day you gained over 3 minutes of daylight.  I have to see Alaska.

Back to work, except at the end of the week I will be in sunny and warm FLORIDA! Cool [8D]

Buckeye you read it right! But wait it gets even better in another month or so we will be gaining  6-7 minutes each day! Man it is great. By the time March gets here we are pretty much even-steven but once April arrives we are digging late night daylight and interior Alaskans put away the flashlights for about 5 months! Nothing compares to it! Bike, golf, fish, whatever, whenever!

Good morning from Chicago where it is a cool, clear and beautiful morning and I am back to work. Jim A., we will have to talk again soon without interruptions.  I really enjoyed running the trains yesterday afternoon - the GG1 and a passenger consist, the 520 pulling a long freight consist, all sorts of trolleys - I like the newest - the Philadelphia Corgi Birney powered by Bowser - the best (currently) - it is super quiet and runs smoothly. I took apart the handcart to see if I could use its motor for the Rail Zeppelin but I don't like it.  I re-isolated the sidings and got out of my electrical difficulties - and I left all my other electrics I was planning to redo alone for now. Have to start saving for another Birney.

The pot has definetly switched over to fastrack!!!  Pun intended.

Interesting day yesterday, have had intention of getting our El Camino painted, set the ball in motion.

As a resullt of investigating various body flare kits, and other accessories we found a really valuable resource.  "El Camino Mike", this guy lives and operates his shop less than 15 miles from us.  Come to find out even the flare kits are manufactured within 10 miles.  (These are sold on the web to all the various specialized shops accross the country.)

Anyway, this guys has 1 &1/2 acres (unheard of here), and about 12-14 garages on the property with 6 El Caminos setting outsided.  I didn't see inside 6 garages so don't know about them.  But the others....  Extremely neatly organized, labeled and in boxes on racks sorted by year.  I have NEVER seen such a clean and neat repair facility, including major new car service centers.  He has been restoring El Caminos for 16 years and doing quite well.  Just sent a car to New Zealand, last year 3 to the UK.

He currently ONLY has about 16, 10 of which are at his sisters in Riverside.  He also indicated he has owned (registered in his name) 231 El Caminos.  What a find! He has every part both new and used, and knows anything you could imagine about the car.

Anyway, he has ours Sigh [sigh] and is going to repair some front bumper work, install the flair kit, strip and repaint, replace the weatherstriping, fix up a couple of other minor issues.  And the price....  LESS THAN WHAT TWO LOCAL BODY & PAINT SHOPS HAVE QUOTED.  He had 1 car there that he had just finished and was returning to customer this week.  It was showroom new!

Great Find..
