railsounds or sound commander??
Posted by mpzpw3 on Saturday, February 4, 2006 1:48 PM
I am wanting to add sounds to a Williams berkshire, and am not sure which way to go. I like the sounds of the sound commander, but after reading the website, doubt it will work with the electronic e-unit in the Williams engine in conventional operation. The railsounds kit from Digital Dynamics looks like it will work, but will have to add a tether and it looks like I will have to settle for Northern or Hudson sounds. Which one would be closer to the Berk? Any suggestions?

Jon at Electric RR could probably tell you if the unit will work with a Williams e-unit. He's always gotten back to me within 24hrs with answers to my questions. Unless you're planning on eventually running command, Railsounds is a bit of a waste running conventional.

You can listen to samples of the sounds on the internet. Pick your favorite and have at it.

A small update. For some reason I forgot that the tender had 2 pick-up rollers for the whistle and bell sounds. Look before you post in my case! I have e-mailed Electric RR and TAS in regards to sounds. I really enjoy my railsounds add-on tender, but don't see much difference between it, and the samples the Electric RR have on the web-site (I do notice the price differance, though). I e-mailed TAS because I am interested in the turbo-smoke unit, if it will fit. Your opinions, and the replies from these companies interest me greatly!! Any help is always appreciated!!
