Good Afternoon,

Unfortunately, I have sad news to report,  Frank Eagles (The Chief) passed away this morning!

I received a call from his daughter, that his wife was called early that he had passed.  She said he had taken a "turn for the worse", and his heart failed".  At this time of course there are NOT any arrangements made, but that she would notify me as soon as they have the information.

Of course I am saddened with his loss.  I had just talked with him yesterday, and he said he was feeling pretty good, but his voice was breaking up quite a bit and he was having shoulder pain.  He was quite happy though, he had just found out that a $6 million grant he had been working on for his community had just been approved.  One of the many things it was going to be used for is a mobile health vehicle for the community.

Frank is survived by his wife Pam, son Frankie, and Daughter Cathy.  I believe he has 5 grandchildren.  (1 boy, 4 girls).

He also was one of the founders of this thread 17 years ago.  And I know he was very generous with his trains to many participants here, as well as local children in his area.  I am sure he will be missed in Rolesville NC.

May he Rest in Peace, the  last 8 or 9 months have been extremely hard for him.

Don

Extremely sad news.

The Chief was an inspiration to so many members of this forum. From his days of "The Carpet Central" he helped many achieve their own dreams.

To his many friends here and across the Country he will be always remembered as a truly Great man. Godspeed Chief.

I'm sure the pain for his family is intense, but his own suffering is over.

Still, the loss of the Chief is a great loss to us all.

Ride easy on the "Night Train" Chief, for a glorious morning awaits you.

My sympathies to FRank's Family and friends.  I didn't know him too well other than a few meetings at York.  I will keep him and his family in my thoughts.

Truely, this is sad news.  Thanks for letting us know, Don.

A real "Southern Gentleman", he always tried to be the voice of reason and a friend.

This has been a year of many friends, mentors and leaders leaving this mortal coil.  I am saddened by this news.

May God and his angels lift Chief Eagles up to his heavenly reward. Prayers and condolences to his family and friends, that they be comforted.

RIP, Chief.  You will be missed.

Seventeen plus years ago, I posted for the first time on this forum under the name Buckeye Riveter. The next thing I knew was Chuck Mathews was on my door step with a train to run on my garden railroad, but there was another motive. The Chief asked Chuck to see if I he could find out if I was "real".

And that is how my friendship started with Chief Eagles.

I first met the Chief in person at the Wheeling, WV Cabelas when he was working part time as an onboard charger rep. We talked for an 1 1/2 and became instant friends.

In 2006, the Chief paid me a visit to see the BO&W RR. Of course, he crawled under the layout to see how I wired the TMCC. He  has provided me at least 6 SC-2 Controlers and 0-72 switches for the new layout.

As we kidded each other, I changed the name of Rolesville to Rosieville on all my posts. Rosieville's main tourist attraction was the dump that glowed.

In 2012, I was fortunate to vist the Chief and Ms. Pam at their house on Main St. in Rolesville, NC. He loved my Buckeye gifts especially the Buckeyes held by Pam.

Over the years, many of us started to hear about the Chief's train box.  A little photo editing was added. The Chief really laughed at the new title printed on the box.

Of course I was given a grand tour of the Box by the Chief before the trains.

In 2020, as we discussed my new gig at the Roundhouse. He told me he thought it was great I had volunteered to help them. He then asked me if I had seen the most recent addition of TRAINS. I told hime I did not subscribe. Two weeks later, I received a notice I had a subscription as a gift from the Chief. Bottom line, that is what the Chief was all about, a giving and caring person from a small town in North Carolina.

I'll miss seeing his name pop up on my cell phone. Rest in peace my great friend and thank you for your friendship, fellowship and fun for these last 17 years. My prayer for Ms. Pam and the family during their time of greiving.

In lieu of flowers, people can make donations to Village Church Rolesville for the Frank Eagles Memorial Foundation. It's taken me a while, trying to find the right words... only to say that I don't think I can find the right words to express my conolences to the passing of the Chief. I am unsure if we talked much in the past but it doesn't take much to see how important he was to the CTT forums, and the community of toy train operators and collectors. I wish I had a chance to really get to know him before he passed.

It's been a rough year for everyone here, with the ammount of wonderful souls that folks have lost. I can only hope that our community doesn't suffer so many more losses in the future- the passing of someone who made an impact on your life is never an easy thing to live through.

Mornin' guys and gal(s). A crisp, sunny day along the Patterson Creek cut-off. The fam just took off east for festivities at a Frederick Co pumpkin patch. I'll be headed south for conductor duty in Hampshire County. So it is...life goes on.

So many nice things said about the Chief. He was much more than what you read on the boards. He considered me a friend, and for that I was fortunate, and grateful.

fife,

What an excellent choice of Scripture for the Chief.  As you probably know the words of that psalm are paraphrased in the song "On Eagles Wings"

Well wishes to all as always-
My weekend was a delightful one at the trolley museum. Met some wonderful folks, saw some familiar faces and many new ones too. Had lots of wonderful conversations- I feel really grateful to have so many wonderful friends at the museum, and wonder what I'd do without them.
It's going to be a little lonely once we close for the season so I think I'm going to be doing my best to be available for the work sessions during the winter. The electric trains are running strong, and I keep remembering when I look at them, about my plans to create a new layout with a more retro feel. Hopefully that's one of the projects that may get worked on in the coming months, assuming I can get my planning done.

Wasen't the real ID to be required to fly starting about now? I haven't heard any more about it.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in Virginia the "Real ID" amounted to an enhanced drivers license.  The problem was they shut down most of the DMV offices last year do to COVID and took forever to open them up again.  Things were messed up for a while to say the least.

I'm not in any rush to get the "Real ID," I ain't goin' anywhere for a while that I can't drive to, which I'd prefer anyway.  Flying's not as fun as it used to be.

Mornin' guys and gal(s). Cloudy and 57 in the Potomac Highlands, where Maryland's three western counties are in talks to join WV. Annapolis ain't gonna let that happen...

Been on the train just about every day, but it hasn't whooped me yet. Fall colors still haven't peaked here.

Purchased some blue and black bulbs for the train room, for some upcoming night train fun.

Fri. 76 Sat. & Sun. 74

My shooting buddy who died and I used to go to a popular gun show in Orange County fairgrounds. Our govenor and his party passed a law no more gun shows there. It brought in a million a year for the fairgrounds. There are almost no gun shows anymore in gun hateing Calif.

Not surprised.  I'm from New Jersey originally and there hasn't been a gun show there in almost 50 years.

Honestly though, the only thing I get at gun shows now are heart attacks when I see the prices!  Yikes!

Train shows are a lot more fun for me now.

Need to track down an ABC store since they sell beer and wine just about every place else.

You shouldn't have too much trouble finding an ABC store out in the "Peoples Republic of Charlottesville" area.  The sophisticates and "Parlor Socialists" that inhabit the UVA environs do like their adult beverages as much as anyone else.

Prices?  Not as cheap as NJ but not too bad.  You may not find the variety you'd get at "Bottle King" or Shop-Rite Liquors.
