Same here SJ, Rain all day.

Ball joints for the Rusty Ranger show as out for delivery today so I guess I will start tearing that apart. Good day to be in the shed.

I decided I needed a Fix last night. Ran the trains and swapped some around on the layout. It had been a long time since I did a good session. I felt much better. Guess I forgot for a bit how much good running them does for me.

Morning all!

Happy December! Thanks Banks!

Sunny, 70 today, but that ends starting tomorrow. Some freezing temps next week. we are ahead of the averages for freezes this year. Got a good soaking and a bit of hail last night as the first of several fronts roll through this week.

Got the eye checked out yesterday and all is well. But they dilated my left eye and that messed me up for the entire afternoon, so I did not get any Sheetrock repairs done. The eye still hurts so we are keeping tabs on that. May be sinus. Annual ENT visit is already scheduled so if still hurting will get it looked at from that angle.

I did damp mop the concrete floor of the last of the concrete dust in the room next to the water heater where we had to junk the carpet and pad from the moisture through the slab. Need to repaint the room as daughter had painted it blue. So will get that done prior to recarpeting, which will include the hallway and another room at the same time.

Had a fun dinner out with neighbors last night. Eight of us hit the local BYOB Chinese place.

Regards, Roy

Good evening all,

A warm day.  Got a lot done today with regard to Christmas shopping and other activities.  Spent some time at the Indiana Historical Society looking at all the Christmas tree exhibits.  Wife and oldest daughter (and some of her kids) got to meet the coworker I walk with at noon and her family.   Went to Mass in Beech Grove again.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Morning All,

Looks to be above average temperatures for today, around 55, but calling for rain.

If the Mrs. is feeling better today, we're going to get the Christmas decorations and tree set up. I was tinkering with my CP Holiday Train yesterday as it seems to be a bit "glitchy". I haven't had much luck with MTH over the years. I guess that's why I mostly stick with Lionel.

Kev - Yes our trains are good therapy, except when they are "glitchy" .......

Roy - I remember the last time I had eyes dilated. Wow!! I can see why they don't want to drive after that!

RIP President Bush Sr.

Have a good one and prayers.

Evening folks!

Cooler today in the 60's. 53 tomorrow and 50's for the week. Some freezes on tap.

Finshed the heavy work on the plumbing repair. Got the R19 insulation over the pex in the attic. Sheetrock repair almost completed, another skim coat and texture, then repaint. Also have to sand and repaint the trim/reinstall, but I can back off on the activity since the attic work is competed. Glad this is almost over.

Chief - hope the parade went well!

Rob - as cool as its been here, figured you guys would be buried in snow.

Warm sunny day to mulch leaves for the last time.  Got the tree decorated as well.  Watched Liverpool beat Everton on a last second goal.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Dec. 2 and still on the first page of the 'pot - wow.

Sunny and in the 50's yesterday for the Christmas parade.  Clouds moved in and the temperature took a nose dive a couple of hours after the parade ended.

Cloudy and 30's this morning.  Pretty good wind out of the northwest, making the walk with the dog chilly.

Got my excevation and tunneling machinery out and got the tunnel for the trolley on the Polar Express layout roughed out this afternoon.  There were a couple of supports for the 2nd level roadbed in the way - when I first saw that, the Doc. Brown quote from one of the Back to the Future movies came to mind - "We might have to blast!".

Since the Polar Express layout is used at kid's events, I 'kid proofed' the trolly by removing the pantographs from the roof.  They looked a little fragile to leave on.

About all for now.

Aloha. Grey and rainy - defintely warmer in the city by the lake than 50 miles out by us. A quiet weekend of cleaning and organizing, bought a few Christmas gifts, need a few more. I served at church as video director yesterday and then watched the Bears lose in OT to the woeful Giants. Rob, my neighbors saw the CP Holiday Train go through Savannah (IL) on Saturday. It's not quite the same in the daylight! It is nice to see the Christmas trains at the IRM are full. They are running the C&NW bilevels pushed and pulled by a former BN executive train F unit. They have also used their Rock Island cars... Check out this neat color photo of a 1946 Lionel layout (from Shorpys)

Hey!! PAGE 1!!

Happy Monday!!

Saturday arrived and waited for the Christmas Trees to show up at the firehouse and by NOON they finally showed. 265 trees off loaded and on the ground, 30 were sold by 5 PM after 2 back top back fire calls.  Again, the old guy lead the way, found the roof access panel on a commercial strip mall (odor of smoke), unlocked and did the primary search for any damaged/broken or malfucntioning air handlers.  None found, then off to an active dumpster fire.  Packed up and on air, used the assisting engine for water and hose (We had originally responded with the ladder).

Spent the night watching my Devils lose in OT to the Jets.

Sunday did the laundry and........wait for it.........

The first train table has been built!!!  The "northern" extension table is up and just need to go get some foam and then lay track (the attic is a North/South facing with a Southern Exposure/Front)  This will probably be "Spooky Town", but we'll see.  I have retired the layout for the firehouse as it was too much work in too short a period of time, so that will come up to the house and become part of the southern expansion.  a 4X8 sheet of reinforced plywood with foam and 2 ovals of FasTrack.

Spent the rest of the day rearraigning the furnture in the living room and the dining room, the layout of the house is much more open and inviting and the 55" TCL/Roku is visually and audibly better.  Need to get the fake fireplace light bulb replaced and then it's complete.

Getting busy so, back to work, but I'll check back when I can.

50 today and breezy, bright sun, temps will nosedive tomorrow with a 40F high...oy....

Afternoon All!

Well, after 60+ yesterday, (yes Roy, I had shorts and flip flops on!) back to reality today. Flurries and 30....

Not much on the go today. We got the tree up yesterday and are finishing up the decorations this evening. Still trying to decide on the train layout.

I see UP is going to use 4141 for President Bush's funeral train in Texas. A nice gesture.

Rich - Nice job on the layout progress. Even nicer job on leading the FD!

DougM - I was able to catch the CP Holiday Train this year too. I saw it at night and yes it does make a difference!

Have a good one and prayers.

Good evening,

Like Rob, Weather has turned back to normal. Tongue Tied

Slow day today, went and got food from Krogers and other supplies from Farm & Fleet. Still waiting on the tie rod end (shows tomorrow) and shocks (???) for the Ranger to finish that off. As long as it was in the warm shed I cleaned the interior some as I had a few beers. Beer Beer

We decided not to send Christmas cards this year. Last year we sent like 20 and only got 4. Guess it is a social media thing now days.

Picked up gift cards for # 1 son Russell's side so they can have some money to spend on their Florida trip after Christmas.

Otherwise just relaxing.

Good deal on the plumming work Roy and Yes Rich for all you do.

Good evening all,

Very busy at work.  Usually the first day of the month is.  Walked inside today.  Went thru convention center where they were setting up for a racing equipment convention.  They had some older 500 race winners they were setting up for display.  I told my walking companion how I saw all of them win the 500.  The 1968 winner kind of impressed her in that I had seen that one win as well.   Finished up sweeping the floors tonight.  Got MR and Trains today.  Both look to be good issues.   I hope everyone has a good day.

MikeC - that's cool you got to see those races! I have watched as many as possible on the TV. As a kid they used to show the highlight films at the local YMCA.

Mornin' Fellas

Permits have been submitted! Now that wait begins. Only have a few options we are waiting on pricing for, and for the plumber to confirm if we can have the tub faucet The VPQ is wanting so badly.

Been working on small projects at the current house. Hopefully have the ceiling patched in the basement and ready for paint. Took the plasma screen off the mount the other day and darn near killed myself. That thing weights a ton and I had forgotten how cumbersome it can be to manuever. LOL! Definitely not being hung on a wall again, and if it needs to go higher than waist high it is going to be given to my neice and her boyfriend!

Found out there have been 10 investors look at the house in Pittsburgh and all have passed due to the water issue in the basement. Would have been nice to know after the 2nd or 3rd so it could have been addressed. Now have to do work over the Christmas break, not happy. Hopefully this will be the last project... I know I keep saying this. Bang Head

Still no word from the LTS on the AF transformer and engine. If no call by noon today I will call.

Rich - nice news on the layout!

Chief - You are the busiest retired person I know!

Roy - Glad you got the issue fixed. That didn't sound like much fun!

Hope everyone is healthy and doing well. Angel for those in need.

Evening folks!

Freezing start to the day and 45 right now. Another freeze tonight.

Making progress on cleaning up all the trim that was removed for the plumbing repair. Got most of it sanded down. Also got the 2 inspection access door schemes working. Drywall work completed and ready to paint. Found some wall paint from the last time we painted - need to buy some more plus trim paint. Lotta painting in my future...I do not like painting....

Almost forgot - gotta buy new carpet for the room by the water heater. So we will also recarpet the hallway and another room. So been researching costs for that.

Brent - bummer about the basement water, new problem? Hope it resolves easily!

RT - good luck on the closing.

Good evening all,

Busier day than expected at work, but got it mostly done.  Hopefully should be quiet tomorrow.  Weather was good enough to walk outside.   Roy, I have seen a lot of history at IMS.  Guess that is why it means so much to me.  With all the recent additions the past few years (the Mini and the Grand Prix), the place takes on more meaning.  This year's theme (Is it May yet?) really gets to me.  Wal Mart seems to be h--- bent on eliminating cashiers.  Only 3 lines tonight.  Ridiculous.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' boys.  Occasional flurries and 27 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Actually fired up the pellet stove to give the HVAC a breather.  Not sure what's on the agenda today.

Created a Dept56 North Pole Village for placement under the new Christmas tree.  Wifey gave "tepid" permission before I got started, but loves it now.  A simple Fastrack circle is in place for her Lionel Gingerbread RR.

Aloha. Grey and colder. At least I can tromp through the woods to the train depot without wading through snow - most of it is gone. You may have more on the ground down by you, KevMikeC, I was thinking about you when visiting the Volo Auto Museum recently - they had quite a number of 500 cars there - practice ones as well as racers - some were for sale! Roy, if you going to replace the carpet in that room - are you ever going to have to get in there again?

Afternoon Fellas

Roy - not a new problem. The leak has been there since I bought the place in 1997. It never bothered me to the point of addressing it (a few contractors wanted over 10K). The realtor I am working with told me not to worry about it unless it came up as a reason for people not buying. The house has been on the market for 45 days and she just now mentioned that I should consider addressing it... Bang Head

Hoping it can get fixed with a few days work. If not it will be difficult to work on during the winter with travel being questionable through the Appalachian and Allegheny Mountains.

No snow to speak of here DougM.

Brent, This stuff works great on leaks in the basement walls. When they did my basement it was "Guaranteed" not to leak,,Yeah,,,RIGHT!!  Bang Head So anyway when it did leak they used this stuff on the cracks and where the form supports came through. Worked great. I have used it since on other areas where there was seepage with good results.. Big thing is be sure the downspout water gets well away from the foundation and no rain water runs to the house.

Chief, in north Tx. you can’t have basements because of the type of soil from what my friends down there tell me. All of there places are on slabs. The soil shifts too much.

Rusty Ranger is done, (ball joints and tie rods) but still waiting on the new shocks to arrive.
